My Review of 45 Years

So I recently watched 45 Years and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado........

Kate Mercer (played by Charlotte Rampling) and her husband (played by Tom Courtenay) are excitedly planning a party to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. One week before the celebration, a letter arrives for her husband. The body of his first love has been discovered, frozen in the icy glaciers of the Swiss Alps. As the party nears, there might not be a marriage left to celebrate.

This was an absolutely fantastic film to watch. Charlotte Rampling is an actress who is just special thing to watch in every film she is in and she really shines in this film and she might be a dark-horse to get nominated for an Academy Award at The Oscars this year. However she only gives a great performance due to her chemistry between her and Tom Courtenay who is a fantastic legacy actor and he gives a brilliant performance in this film. The story is one that is very original and it truly shows a lot of the human emotion especially when you go into the idea of your husband possibly still being in love with a woman who died 45 years earlier. It touches you heart on what possibly could've been if certain things hadn't happened and it basically shows you how having regrets can impact life so many years down the line. Andrew Haigh is relatively new and young director and he fully understands what he is dealing with both story wise and acting wise and he does a great of job of letting both Rampling and Courtenay do their own thing to help guide the film along. While they do guide the film along sometimes the freedom to do whatever shows is couple of scenes that can take you out of the film and they also make the film fell a little over-dramatic. Also the performances of the supporting cast is almost nonresistant and those are the performances you look for in an emotional film like this just to gauge their characters reaction to what the film is basically about. Overall this was a magnificently beautiful film with two terrific performances, but the film often becomes too emotional and their is almost nothing given to the film from the supporting cast. I give 45 Years a 9 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of 45 Years, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
