So I recently watched A walk in the Woods and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (played by Robert Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (played by Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail - 2,200 miles of America's most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek - his long lost and former friend Katz (played by Nick Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law - sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before its too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word, "adventure". Now they're about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins.
This was a really fun film to watch, Seeing these three acting giants (Redford, Thompson and Nolte) on screen together is just a magnificent thing to see and it's something you don't see that much in this day. This a film that is very different then what we are accustomed to seeing Robert Redford being in. It was also nice to see Nick Nolte in a film against after he has had a pretty big absence since his Oscar nominated performance in Warrior and he has fascinating chemistry with Redford as they go on through their journey. There is also a lot of great comedy and some nice physical humor that will make you laugh out loud. While there are some great performances and some hilarious humor, the film falls flat when it comes to the story. It's really predictable and the characters have the same archs that in a lot of other films. Overall this a really solid film and the older moviegoers will enjoy this, but this isn't a film you should rush out to see. I give A Walk in the Woods a 7 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of A Walk in the Woods, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
