Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has today received its official MPAA rating. According to the association, the Batman v Superman rating will be a PG-13 for “intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality”. A PG-13 Batman v Superman rating is not necessarily a surprising answer. Every Batman film since Tim Burton’s 1989 version has been given a PG-13, as have both Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and Snyder’s own Man of Steel. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film. Jason Momoa will also be making an appearance as Aquaman. Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before. Directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to open worldwide on March 25, 2016.
Does this rating really surprise anyone. I mean it shouldn't because just about every comic book film is rated R with the exception of a few films (Blade, Daredevil, The Punisher and Deadpool). If this film was rated anything other than PG-13 then I would be shocked or a little more excited because seeing an R rated Batman vs. Superman film would be amazing. Now that the rating has been issued I can now know what to expect and it just the makes the film seem so much more real and I cannot wait to see this film. March can not come soon enough.
20th Century Fox has released the new trailer for The Revenant. Opening in limited theaters on Christmas Day, the action adventure expands wide on January 8, 2016. Check out The Revenant trailer below. Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. The Revenant is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel). Also starring Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter, the film is based on the novel by Michael Punke. Mark Smith and Iñárritu wrote the script for the movie, produced by Arnon Milchan, Steve Golin, David Kanter, Keith Redmon, and Iñárritu.
This is such a fantastic trailer. From the moment I heard about this film I immediately got excited simply because of everyone involved with the film. The film looks absolutely beautiful and it seems like that we'll see a lot of action mixed with some great dramatic scenes. Look I've said this confidently before and this trailer backs it up, I honestly think that Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win his Oscar and if he doesn't then I don't know when he will ever win one. I'm excited to see this film and hopefully my expectations are met.
There’s some very good news today for fans of Guillermo del Toro‘s epic Kaiju showdown, Pacific Rim. Last month, it was reported that the Pacific Rim sequel had been removed from Legendary‘s schedule of upcoming films. Today, Universal Pictures has clarified the change with an official statement. “Legendary’s ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ originally scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, will be redated at a later time,” it reads. “The filmmakers, Legendary and Universal Pictures are committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2,’ the sequel to 2013’s ‘Pacific Rim,’ which generated more $411 million at the global box office, be the vanguard, fully-immersive experience that the franchise deserves. To this end, the decision was made to delay the production and release of ‘Pacific Rim’ so that the creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.” Taking the place of the Pacific Rim sequel will be Pitch Perfect 3, originally planned for release on July 21, 2017. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are already confirmed to headline the returning cast with writer Kay Cannon returning to the team to pen the next chapter. Pitch Perfect 3, currently the only major release scheduled for August 4, 2017, will be produced by series fixtures Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman & Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions. The Pacific Rim sequel, then, will offer the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 epic action-adventure, with a script penned by del Toro, Jon Spaihts (Passengers, Prometheus) and Travis Beacham. Universal Pictures will release the film worldwide in 3D and IMAX. Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed just $101 million at the domestic box office but went on to take in over $400 million worldwide. The film starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
I'm a little indifferent bout the news. On one hand I'm glad it is still happening because after seeing the first film, there is a lot more story to tell with these characters and so many more great battles in the future. On the other hand I'm a little bummed that it's been pulled from the schedule and if this film gets moved back any farther, then the original film will start to go out of people's minds and what little momentum you had is now almost gone. I do however like the move for Pitch Perfect 3 because it moves it to a date that is currently unoccupied, not competition is currently coming out after the film and it gets you away from the previously announced and untitled Christopher Nolan film which will certainly make a lot of money. As I said before I hope Pacific Rim 2 can get an early 2017 release date that way I don't have to wait 5 or 6 years for a sequel.
It has been over five years since we reported any significant movement on Walt Disney Pictures’ proposed Enchanted sequel, but now Collider brings word that interest in renewing the (potential) franchise has picked up at the Mouse House and what was formerly referred to as Enchanted 2 has a new working title: Disenchanted. Right from the title, we can imagine that the “ever after” part of “happily ever after” isn’t quite working out for fairy tale princess Giselle (Amy Adams) and her earthly beau Robert (Patrick Dempsey), although no plot details have been revealed. We do know that Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, Hot Pursuit) is still attached to direct Disenchanted, although the script initially penned by Jessie Nelson (Fred Claus) is getting an overhaul before Disney gives it the greenlight. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are expected to again produce. The original animated/live-action hybrid, made for about $85 million, earned an impressive $340.5 million worldwide. $127.8 million of that came from North America and $212.7 million from overseas. Kevin Lima directed the movie from a script by Bill Kelly. It starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey and Susan Sarandon.
This is pretty interesting news to hear. I say that because I kinda enjoyed the first film and I never thought a sequel was going to happen or needed to happen. The first film had a really natural feel to it because it was about a princess and Disney has made it's name based on princesses over the past 70 years. After seeing the film I didn't really think a sequel was necessary, but money talks and the first film made enough to warrant a sequel. hopefully the sequel can be just as good as the first film and I'd really like to see the original cast return for this film.
Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class) has signed on to direct Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ feature film adaptation of Terry Hayes’ international bestselling espionage thriller I Am Pilgrim, it was announced today by Jonathan Glickman, MGM’s President, Motion Picture Group. Vaughn will also produce and co-finance through his Marv Films. Lloyd Braun is also producing through his Whalerock Industries with Andrew Mittman serving as executive producer. Hayes, former journalist and award-winning screenwriter (Payback, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior and Dead Calm) is adapting his novel for the screen. Production is scheduled to begin in 2016. “Pilgrim” is the codename for a man who doesn’t exist. The adopted son of a wealthy American family, he once headed up a secret espionage unit for US intelligence. Now in anonymous retirement, he is called upon to lend his expertise to an unusual investigation but ultimately becomes caught in a terrifying race-against-time to save America from oblivion. Beyond becoming a reader and bookseller favorite, I Am Pilgrim was THE summer thriller of 2014, appearing as a top choice in summer round-ups all over the country, hitting the New York Times Best Seller list, and spending four weeks as a Los Angeles Times bestseller. Translated in over 30 languages, the novel has also been a massive bestseller in the UK (where it was the bestselling debut of 2014 and has sold over 750,000 copies), as well as Holland, France, Spain, Japan and Scandinavia. “We could not be more excited to have a consummate filmmaker like Matthew to bring ‘I Am Pilgrim’ to the screen,” said Glickman. “His sensibility, coupled with Terry Hayes’ incredible story, gives us the ideal team to bring this character to the world wide audience.”
I really like this choice for a director. Matthew Vaughn has proven himself worthy to direct a spy film after what he did with Kingsman earlier this year. His style just lends itself so well to the genre and I'm really curious to see what he does with a little more serious material. The book sounds really interesting and I'm just excited to see what Matthew Vaughn can do with this material.
