Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Cate Blanchett apparently doesn’t have enough Oscars on her mantle just yet. Although she won one Oscar for her supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator and another for her lead role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine in 2014–and the Oscar talk has continued for her performance in Todd Haynes’ Carol–Blanchett may have just signed up for the role of her career. 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival - "Sicario" PremiereIt’s being reported by TheWrap that Blanchett is now attached to star in an authorized biopic of actress Lucille Ball, who became one of America’s very first television sweethearts in the ’50s from her show “I Love Lucy” with husband Desi Arnaz. The biopic is being written by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) for Sony’s Escape Artists, and it will chronicle the 20-year marriage between Lucy and Desi, whom she had two children with before they divorced in 1960. Those two children, Lucy Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr., will be producing the movie with Escape Artists’ Jenna Block, although there’s no director in place as of yet.
This is a spectacular casting decision. Cate Blanchett is easily one of the greatest actresses of all-time and she can back that up with her loaded resume of films and award wins/nominations. The story of Lucille Ball is a really interesting one and I'm really curious to see what aspects they will hit in here life and if they'll sugarcoat it in anyway, but most bio-pics do and her children are working on it so they probably will. Cate Blanchett is the perfect choice to play Lucille Ball with Amy Adams being a close second, but I love the choice and I can't wait to see the film.
Following the Red Band trailer in July, Columbia Pictures has now brought online The Night Before green band trailer that you can watch below. Set for release on November 25, The Night Before stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, Jillian Bell, Michael Shannon and Mindy Kaling. From Levine, the director of 50/50 and Warm Bodies, comes the new comedy The Night Before. Ethan (Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Rogen) and Chris (Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties. Featuring a screenplay by Jonathan Levine and Evan Goldberg & Kyle Hunter & Ariel Shaffir, The Night Before is produced by Rogen, Goldberg and James Weaver and executive produced by Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, Barbara A. Hall, Kyle Hunter, Ariel Shaffir and Ben Waisbren.
I really liked this trailer a lot. Now granted it isn't as funny as the red band trailer, but that's to be expected when they usually tone done the vulgar humor in green band trailers. I think this film is going to be a really big surprise hit and it is coming out at the right time and it will be great counter-programming for the Thanksgiving weekend. The one actor I'm looking forward to the most in the film is Anthony Mackie because we've never really seen him in this type of film and it will be interesting to see how he'll do.
Announced for development through Walt Disney Studios and The Weinstein Company back in 2013, plans for an Artemis Fowl movie appear to be moving forward. The Tracking Board today reports that Thor and Cinderella helmer Kenneth Branagh has signed on to develop and direct a big screen adaptation of the hit book series by Eoin Colfer. Artemis Fowl is about a 12-year-old Artemis who is a millionaire, a genius – and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesnt know what he’s taken on when he kidnaps a fairy (Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit) to harness her magic to save his family. The screenplay for the Artemis Fowl movie was originally being written by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix scribe Michael Goldenberg. Today’s update (via Variety) suggests that talks have begun with Irish playwright Conor McPherson to script. Although it is uncertain whether or not the plan remains the same, the 2013 announcement claimed that the live-action Artemis Fowl movie will be based on the first and second installments in the best-selling children’s fiction series, Artemis Fowl and Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident. Branagh, whose Cinderella earned more than $542 million worldwide, is next slated to direct a big screen adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. He’s also set to produce the Artemis Fowl movie alongside Harvey Weinstein. “This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book,” Weinstein said back in 2013. “This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old.” Judy Hofflund will executive produce the Artemis Fowl movie with Tendo Nagenda and Jessica Virtue overseeing for TWC and Disney, respectively.
This is a great choice for a director. Kenneth Branagh is a fantastic director and while he most known for his period piece films, he has proven he can step out of that and do other films, but still bring that flavor to any film. I'm not really familiar with Artemis Fowl so I'll be going into this pretty blind and I'm looking for ward to that aspect. It sounds like an interesting premise, so we'll have to see how it works out.

Director Steven Spielberg has been making the rounds in the news recently for several big items on his plate: He has the Cold War film Bridge of Spies starring Tom Hanks debuting at the New York Film Festival later this month, as well as a burgeoning deal with Universal to take over distribution/financing of DreamWorks film projects after their deal with Disney is over. In an article in The Hollywood Reporter about the possible DreamWorks/Universal merger, they drop a bombshell quote which could have major ramifications. “[Spielberg] also is key on potential reboots of other Universal franchises such as ‘Jaws’ and ‘Back to the Future.'” There have been rumors for many years that Universal was keen on reviving its iconic Jaws and Back to the Future franchises, though the latter is very unlikely as the original trilogy’s director Robert Zemeckis told The Telegraph earlier this summer. “That can’t happen until both Bob [Gale] and I are dead, and then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it,” said Zemeckis of a remake. “I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?” So if Zemeckis and Gale’s stake in the property makes it impossible for new movies (which they have been opposed to since the release of Back to the Future Part III), what form could a reboot with the film’s producer Spielberg take, if not a remake? Could there be another animated series or film that would allow Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd to return to their beloved characters of Marty and Doc? As for Bruce the shark, Universal famously went ahead with three panned Jaws sequels in 1978, ’83 and ’87, respectively, after Spielberg flat-out refused to go back in the water after having made the “definitive” shark movie. With Warner Bros. prepping their giant shark tale Meg with director Eli Roth and Sony going the shark survival tale route with In the Deep, it’s possible Universal doesn’t want to let a good fish go to waste. Unlike Back to the Future, Jaws is a franchise that is not considered untouchable given the three sequels already made, but their failure to capture the public imagination may have already proved Spielberg’s initial hesitation correct. That said, with the right helmer and a fresh approach, a new jaunt with Quint aboard the Orca could be an interesting proposition.
This is really interesting. Spielberg is the king of directing and being that he had a hand in making both of these films and to be honest I think he should have a say in the matter along with Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. I don't think he'll have a problem doing a Jaws remake, but Back to the Future is a different story. I would honestly want to see reboots/remakes of both of these films, because I think with the use of modern technology, both of these films could be amazing. Right now we don't anything and it doesn't look like anything will happen, but never say never.
EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Sony Pictures Entertainment have released the brand-new Spectre poster and you can check it out below. In the film, a cryptic message from the past sends James Bond (Daniel Craig) on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE. Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot. As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz. SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion), as Bond fans know, is a fictional global terrorist organization featured in Ian Fleming’s novels, as well as the films and video games based on those novels. The organization was led by the villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, although the cast is definitely playing it coy about whether or not Blofeld will actually appear in the new film. Directed once again by Sam Mendes, SPECTRE is written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade. The 24th Bond film hits theaters and IMAX on November 6, 2015.
This is a really interesting poster. I like it a lot because it brings a lot of mystery, but some familiar things. The Skeleton can have a double meaning. One way is that James Bond could be revealing a skeleton in the closet from his past or it could be a possible to hint to one of the best Bond henchmen of all-time in OddJob and that would actually be really awesome. I'm a huge Bodn film and I hope that with the same director of Skyfall (Sam Mendes) back for this film will bring a lot of success.
Universal Pictures has today added Selena Gomez to the cast of their now-filming R-rated comedy sequel, Neighbors 2. According to E!, the actress and pop vocalist was spotted on the film’s Atlanta set. What’s more, the outlet suggests that the film will be released as Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, although this has not yet been confirmed by the studio. Selena Gomez joins returning Neighbors stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco with Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, The Equalizer) also attached to play a new character. Nicholas Stoller is also back in the director’s chair, writing alongside Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Selena Gomez is arguably best known for her role as Alex Russo on Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place”. Her big screen roles range from the Beverly Cleary adaptation Ramona and Beezus to Harmony Korrine’s hypnotic crime thriller Spring Breakers (where she starred opposite frequent Rogen collaborator James Franco). She’ll be back in theaters later this month, once again lending her voice to Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, in the Genndy Tartakovsky animated sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2. Look for it to see release September 25. The first Neighbors was released in 2014 and grossed more than $269 million worldwide, making it that year’s biggest original comedy. Rogen and Goldberg will also produce Neighbors 2 alongside James Weaver through their Point Grey Pictures banner. Cohen and O’Brien will serve as executive producers alongside Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake. Neighbors 2 will be released on Friday, May 13, 2016.
This is pretty interesting. Selena Gomez isn't the greatest actress in the world and she probably won't be a great one for the rest of her life. I think she'll play the female version of Dave Franco's character from the first film and I think that she'll have some great chemistry with Chloe Grace-Moretz. I absolutely loved the first film, but I'm a little hesitant about this film is because comedy sequels are hard to do and I hope this one can be better than the first film.
