Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)
In a major update to the future of the Star Wars saga on the big screen, Deadline is reporting that Brick, Looper and The Brothers Bloom helmer Rian Johnson is making plans to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. Although the outlet is also reporting that he'll direct Star Wars: Episode IX, TheWrap claims that Johnson will only provide a treatment for the saga-finale and that a director for that final film has not yet been decided on. We'll update with official word as soon as it's available.
Johnson joins a seemingly ever-growing slate of top directors that are setting lightspeed coordinates for a galaxy far, far away. J.J. Abrams is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VII while both Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) and Josh Trank (Chronicle) are planning to helm solo films. The plan is for a new Star Wars film to hit every year beginning with Episode VII on December 18, 2015.
This is awesome news. I loved Looper and I thought Rian Johnson did a fantastic job with it. I really like what Disney is doing in getting young up-and-coming directors. My one concern is that all four directors that have been chosen for Star Wars films haven't really directed many films (JJ Abrams 4 films, Gareth Edwards 2 films, Josh Trank 1 film and Rian Johnson 4 films), but I fully trust what Disney is planning and hopefully it works out.
Production continues on Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and some new images from the Michigan set have hit Twitter today thanks to eagle-eyed fan Joe Stoiko. Check out his shots of a Superman statue and a Lexcorp helicopter below!
Opening in theaters on May 6, 2016, the anticipated film also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto and Ray Fisher.

These set photos are actually pretty cool. It's great when you get to see set photos from films simply because it makes it official that a film is on the way. Plus seeing a LexCorp helicopter and a partial Superman statue just make me geek out a little.
There's a lot of interesting quotes from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige coming out of Barcelona's CineEurope today as Total Film brings updates on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and more. Most of it isn't anything that we haven't heard variations of in the past, but Feige does confirm that Doctor Strange will begin production in spring of 2015.
"[W]e think we'll be casting probably in the next month or two," he says, "and announcing an actor, and then we get into production in the spring of next year... Strange is very, very important, not just because it's an amazing character study, and a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis... [T]here's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe, and Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."
Feige similarly suggest that the intergalactic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could continue on in Guardians of the Galaxy, although nothing is definitively planned yet on that front. "That being said," he explains, "there are dozens and dozens of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' storylines. There's a group that came about in the '60s, were revamped again in the '80s and they changed into this incarnation that you see in this movie about eight or nine years ago. So there are a lot of other characters and worlds and stories. So should this film work, should the audience come out for this one, there are definitely places we can take it and we have ideas of where we'd like to go with it."
What is certain to continue on is Thanos, the cosmic despot who makes an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. "We learn a little bit more about him in this movie," Feige adds, "and he - and his band of followers - is the biggest piece of connective tissue that will eventually lead us back into Avengers films in the future." Although it's hard to say with any certainty, Feige's plural when it comes to "Avengers films" is likely to raise some fan speculation.
Ant-Man, meanwhile, will still come out on July 17, 2015, despite the switch in directors. "'Ant-Man' is a very important character for us," Feige says. "We like that people don't necessarily know what it is. We like that it sounds sort of strange when you first hear the notion of Ant-Man, or a hero that can shrink, but he's a very key Marvel character. He's a key Avenger. He's an important character we want to bring into our universe and Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and an amazing cast all set to start in August, we believe that we're on the road to the best version of 'Ant-Man' that we could have." Here, too, the use of the phrase "key Avenger" should trigger some additional (albeit, not necessarily true) theories about Paul Rudd's role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Alright let's start with Dr. Strange, I cannot wait for this film and with rumors going around that the final three candidates are Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto this film has the potential to be awesome. Also production starting in early 2015 makes sense and it somewhat confirms that this is the other Marvel film to be released in 2016 and most likely on July 8, 2016. As for Guardians of the Galaxy, I agree with Feige in the sense that if Guardians of the Galaxy is successful then I do believe that we will see future sequels for Guardians of the Galaxy, unfortunately it probably won't be until phase 4 and at the earliest will be fall of 2018. Now to Ant-Man, I like that Feige is confident about Ant-Man after everything it has gone through in recent weeks and to also great hear that Ant-Man will be a key figure in the future of Marvel films.
Speaking of Ant-Man, Badass Digest is reporting that the key villain of the film will be Yellowjacket.
Yellowjacket was initially an alternate superhero identity for Hank Pym, the costume having made its first appearance in "The Avengers" #59. Because of the severe mental stress he was under, Yellowjacket actually manifested itself as the darker side of Pym, leading to the character's infamous turn to spousal abuse. Later on, a criminal named Rita DeMara stole the suit and became at first a supervillain and, later on, a sort of antihero, eventually traveling to the 30th century and teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy (a different iteration of the team than will be appearing in the upcoming feature film).
BAD goes on to claim that Michael Douglas' Pym won't be wearing the Yellowjacket suit, but doesn't seem certain that Darren Cross' character will either. Also starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson and Corey Stoll, Ant-Man is set to be directed by Peyton Reed and is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
This is pretty interesting. Knowing Yellowjacket from the comics, it'll be interesting to see how they will make him/her a villain. With Evangeline Lilly possibly being Janet van Dyne/Wasp I wouldn't be surprised if another female is cast hear soon to possibly make Yellowjacket a female villain. This also contradicts the report that Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson are going to be Darren and William Cross So it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
Dead Rising, the popular Capcom zombie survival video game, is being adapted into a feature film. Legendary Entertainment sold the domestic film rights to Crackle, where it will premiere in the U.S. The feature will be written by Tim Carter, who will also produce with Tomas Harlan under their Contradiction Films banner. Contradiction most recently produced the hit digital series Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, G.I. Joe) will executive produce. Dead Rising takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.
Crackle will debut Dead Rising as a feature-length film in the U.S. After Crackle’s exclusive distribution run, the show will also be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV. Content Media will distribute Dead Rising in both feature-length and episodic formats for all international platforms. The Dead Rising franchise has sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide. Publisher Capcom has sold over 100 million game copies worldwide, including juggernauts Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Mega Man.
I'm not really to excited for this news or film. Look I'm a fan of the game franchise but this doesn't need a film. I feel that people are worn out on two things vampires and zombies and I think that this film is setting up to fail. Plus it's a video game film and those generally don't do well in the theaters but it can benefit if both Assassin's Creed and Warcraft are successful.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
