6-18-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Universal Pictures has moved their upcoming fifth entry in the Bourne franchise from August 14, 2015 to July 15, 2016. Justin Lin will direct the latest installment, inspired by the series created by Robert Ludlum.

The film will feature the return of Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross with Frank Marshall once again producing alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

The new date has the Untitled Next Bourne Chapter opening opposite 20th Century Fox's Ice Age 5

This is pretty interesting. I'm honestly shocked that they decided to move dates (especially this far back). Hopefully there isn't a lot of bad issues going on with the production. It could alos just be the studio feeling that this new date is for the better.

Following the news that the next Bourne movie was moved from an August 14, 2015 release to July 15, 2016 comes word from Universal that the August 14 date will instead go to Straight Outta Compton, the movie about N.W.A.

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.

It's finally good to hear the release date. This film seems really interesting and with Ice Cube and Dre helping with the crafting of the film, it''ll be more realistic knowing that most of the things happened in the film. I honestly cannot wait for this film.

Following word early this month that Deliver Us From Evil helmer Scott Derrickson will be directing Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange, comes word, via Deadline that Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts will be rewriting the screenplay.

Previously drafted by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, Doctor Strange is based on the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, who made his first appearance in 1963's "Strange Tales" #110. It follows the adventures of Stephen Strange (nodded at in this year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier), a brilliant neurosurgeon who, following a car accident loses precision in his hands. His quest to regain his former skills sets Strange on a path to become the "Master of the Mystic Arts".

Rumored candidates to play Strange are said to include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto.

Although a specific release date for Doctor Strange has not yet been set, Marvel has two placeholder dates set for unnamed features on July 8, 2016 and on May 5, 2017. It's looking more and more likely that the good doctor will be claiming one of those spots.

I'm not really excited to hear this. Eventhough I liked Prometheus, I still wasn't thrilled with the story and I don't know if Spaihts will do a great job with this or not. I hope so, because I'm really looking forward to this movie.

We've seen his back in both the first poster and photo (see gallery below), but to celebrate the fictional character's birthday, Focus Features has revealed the first good look at Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey in Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey.

Opening in theaters on February 13, 2015, the big screen adaptation of the E L James novel also stars Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden and Callum Keith Rennie.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" (first published in 2011) follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, "Fifty Shades Darker" (2011) and "Fifty Shades Freed" (2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship.

Look I honestly don't know a single person who is excited for this film. But since it is on the way I guess I have to talk about it. The photo looks good and let's just hope the film won't be a complete porno.

A new video has popped up online that reveals some new photos from the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron and features not only director Joss Whedon but also Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth! Check them out in the video below!

Written and directed by Whedon, the film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Kretschmann, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and James Spader. Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on May 1, 2015.

Eventhough it's just photos, it's still pretty cool to see production full steam ahead. The photos mainly look like Cap and Thor training new cadets which to me is pretty cool. I (like a few others) are anxiously awaiting The Avengers: Age of Ultron. May 2, 2015 couldn't get here fast enough.
