My Review of Logan Lucky

So I recently watched Logan Lucky and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

West Virginia family man Jimmy Logan (played by Channing Tatum) teams up with his one-armed brother Clyde (played by Adam Driver) and sister Mellie (played by Riley Keough) to steal money from the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Jimmy also recruits demolition expert Joe Bang (played by Daniel Craig) to help them break into the track's underground system. Complications arise when a mix-up forces the crew to pull off the heist during a popular NASCAR race while also trying to dodge a relentless FBI agent.

This one of the more fun heist films in recent memory. Steven Soderbergh is one of the best directors that no one hardly knows and he has directed some of the best films of this century with two of those three being heist films apart of the Oceans Trilogy (Oceans Twelve kinda sucks), but while this one won't be considered a masterpiece by many it was a great way for Soderbergh to jump back into directing.  The film itself has some great moments sprinkled throughout the film and most of those moments are the comedic elements and while some of the jokes are big fails, some of them hit pretty hard and make the film a little more light-hearted. The star of the film is Daniel Craig who pulls off one of the best southern accents ever put on film especially for a guy who is British. The main trio of Craig, Driver and Tatum all work really well together in every scene and the hi-jinx they get themselves into is truly remarkable. If you've seen Soderbergh's previous films you'll easily see this on the lighter of tone of things compared to other works and it's nice to see a director step out of their comfort zone for a little bit. Outside of the main trio, none of the performances really stand out and some characters are honestly wasted and one in particular is Hilary Swank's character who is thrown in for the last 20 minutes or so and doesn't truly make an impact. Also this may be a little bit of nitpicking, but why rob Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Coca-Cola 600 when instead you could try to rob The Daytona 500? The story itself is pretty straightforward and doesn't try to swerve you one way or another and honestly there could've been a couple of other avenues that the film could've taken to make things a little bit more interesting. Overall it's a return to form for Soderbergh with a film that has a lot of laughs and great performances, but lacks in original storytelling and wasted opportunities. I give Logan Lucky a 7 out of 10.
