My Review of La La Land

So I recently watched La La Land and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado....

La La Land tells the story of Mia (played by Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (played by Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts.

This is just a really special film. Every year film going audiences look for the feel good movie of the year simply because they know they are going to have a good time no matter what and this is that film. The film just reaches you in so many ways and you're able to connect with both of the main characters mainly due to their aspirations which are some of the same aspirations everyone has and that's is to be success film in something you love doing. Both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are just tremendous in this film and it's the best work both have ever done and look for both to be nominated for acting Oscars next year. The film doesn't hold any punches and comes across with the message that nothing comes easy and that you have to work every single day for your life to be a success. If you are an a aspiring director then along with the usual suspects of Spielberg, Scorsese and Kubrick, one guy you should watch is Damien Chazelle. He just gets filmmaking and how to tell a good story to make it where everything can connect with the audience. It might be crazy to mention him with those legends, but his career path has nothing but upside and he to could be considered a legend in time. Another great aspect for this film is the music and it's all just so catchy and relatable because they fit in with the story and you can often times just close your eyes and be able to tell what is happening on screen. The fact this is set in modern day really paints a bleak picture and it takes a hard look at the reality we live in today and for a film to be that bold is truly remarkable. If there were one thing to say bad about this film is that drags on for quite a bit and it's a story that could've been told without some scenes and in this case is its the dance numbers which really felt out of place when this film needed to be a bit more grounded. Overall this a is brilliant film with some amazing performances, great directing and terrific storytelling that makes it one of the front runners for the Best Picture Oscar next year. I give La La Land a 9.5 out of 10.
