My Review of Manchester by the Sea

So I recently watched Manchester by the Sea and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Manchester by the Sea.jpg

After the death of his older brother Joe (played by Kyle Chandler), Lee Chandler (played by Casey Affleck) is shocked that Joe has made him sole guardian of his teenage nephew Patrick (played by Lucas Hedges). Taking leave of his job as a janitor in Boston, Lee reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations. There, he is forced to deal with a past that separated him from his wife, Randi (played by Michelle Williams), and the community where he was born and raised.

This film is just absolutely beautiful in every sense of the word. Most films cover a lot of different topics, but if you notice death is something that just doesn't make it's way to the big screen often mainly because it's makes the film seem so depressing and tough to watch due to the sadness. Now there are a lot of emotional scenes that can come off as over-dramatic, but there is a lot of heart put behind each of those moments for you to connect with and be able to understand what each character is going through. The performances in this film are what makes films special when you have to star talents in Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck who are both just amazing in the film and  they both deserve Oscar nominations and as of right now Affleck is the frontrunner for the Best Actor category. Director Kenneth Lonergan does a remarkable job of conveying so much emotion out of his characters and he takes a gorgeous scenery in the film to make it a character itself. The way the story is told is so unique and it both answers and reveals a lot of information that is need to know as you go throughout the film. Lonergan has improved so much as a director and you can expect a lot of great work from him in the future. Although he's not in the film as much as the other two characters, Kyle Chandler is great in his performance as well and he to could receive an Oscar nomination. On a side note if it were up to me this film is the best picture winner as of right now and look for it to get several nominations. Overall this film is just terrific and it's a film that explores a lot of different themes most films are afraid to tackle to go along with just an overall perfect cast and direction to make this one of the best films of the year. I give Manchester by the Sea a 10 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Manchester by the Sea, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
