So I recently watched Arrival and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...........
Linguistics professor Louise Banks (played by Amy Adams) leads an elite team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.
This film is just absolutely remarkable. Denis Villeneuve is one of the best directors working today and all of his films have been home runs and this another and it's hard to see this guy making a bad film. He just understands how to tell a good story with either terrific visuals or strong characters that you connect with. This film can be hard to follow at sometimes and it gets a little too scientific with certain elements on who these aliens are and where they come from. It has the same feeling Interstellar had in the sense of going beyond what the human mind can imagine. The performances are just terrific and they are led by the ever so talented Amy Adams who might be in line to get an Oscar nomination next year. There are some great supporting cast performances from Jeremy Renner and Forrest Whitaker and if weren't an already crowded race, they might've been nominated as well. Much like another film from this year (Hacksaw Ridge), Arrival will bring out so many emotions in you and the suspense of the revelation just builds to a perfect point and the reveal is so perfect and somewhat unexpected. Overall the ending isn't anything new, but the performances are just so strong that they keep you interested in things you've already seen and add the emotional build-up with the spectacular visuals just make this one of the best films of the year. I give Arrival a 9.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Arrival, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
