My Review of Almost Christmas

So I recently watched Almost Christmas and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Almost Christmas (film).png

Walter Meyer (played by Danny Glover) is a retired mechanic who lost the love of his life one year earlier. Now that the holiday season is here, he invites daughters Rachel (played by Gabrielle Union) and Cheryl (played by Kimberly Elise) and sons Christian (played by Romany Malco) and Evan (played by Jessie T. Usher) to his house for a traditional celebration. Poor Walter soon realizes that if his bickering children and the rest of the family can spend five days together under the same roof, it will truly be a Christmas miracle.

This was surprisingly a really funny film to watch. Now while the story might not be the best or the most original in the world, but it does just enough for you to care about the story, all of the characters and how they intertwine. It's a film that has a really solid cast of individuals who really aren't that great when in other films by themselves, but as a collective whole they all feed off of each other well and they all give solid performances. The film has a lot of different themes and they are all genuine in some way but often times the themes become overbearing and the often get pushed down your throat for you to accept them and try to learn a lesson whit each one. Besides the performances, the comedy in this film is pretty solid and it helps when you have a guy like J.B. Smoove and even having and veteran actors Mo'Nique and Danny Glover bringing in the more adult humor for everyone to really get a kick out of. The jokes themselves are both absolutely hilarious and cringe worthy at the same time which doesn't present much flow for the film when the jokes do come up in the film. As mentioned with the story before it isn't really the best and the whole plot of the movie is something that's been done before and from the very beginning you can tell where the film is trying to go and eventually does. Overall this is a really solid family comedy film that has some great performances, but not the greatest story in the world and being forced to accept certain things even when you aren't that connected to them. I give Almost Christmas a 6.5 out of 10.
