Weekend Movie News 9-12-14 to 9-14-14

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

While there's no North America distributor or release date yet for director Susanne Bier's Serena, the first UK trailer has come online and can be viewed below. Serena marks the third time Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have teamed up, following David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

Also starring Toby Jones and Rhys Ifans, the movie is set in the North Carolina mountains at the end of the 1920s. George and Serena Pemberton, love-struck newly-weds, begin to build a timber empire. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George's hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pembertons' passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.

The adaptation of the Ron Rash novel opens in UK theaters on October 24 before expanding to other countries later this year.

This was a really good trailer. This film will show us a different side to Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. I do feel however that people are starting to get tired of Jennifer Lawrence (most like me didn't believe that she deserved her Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook). However if she can pull off and Oscar-worthy performance in this one then she could quiet all of the detractors (like me). Hopefully this film can get an American release date by the end of the year and if it does it will be eligible for the upcoming Oscars, becuase this film feels like Oscar-bait to me.

The film now in production and on track for a 2015 release, Seth MacFarlane's Ted 2 offers a sneak peek today with the below set photo, shared from star Mark Wahlberg's Twitter account!

@mark_wahlberg Ready to ride? Mark on the set of Ted 2 with a new #IndianScout

It looks like Flash Gordon is still playing a big part in John Bennett's life! Wahlberg will reprise the role opposite Amanda Seyfried, Mila Kunis, Jessica Barth, Morgan Freeman and MacFarlane himself. Ted 2 hits the big screen June 26, 2015.

This is really cool to see. I enjoyed all of the moments that involved Flash Gordon and I thought they were the funniest parts of the film. Maybe Flash Gordon himself will make an appearance in the film. I absolutely enjoyed Ted and I'm really excited to see this film.

Director Zack Snyder took to Twitter last night to post a new photo from the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which features the Batmobile, the Gotham City Police Department and a... Stormtrooper from Star Wars? Snyder's tweet only says "Case closed."

It's all part of a running joke between Snyder and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot in which they mix Batman/Superman and Star Wars characters, and it also makes fun of the debunked rumor from yesterday that a Batmobile had been stolen from the set. Having said that, the photo does give us another semi-official look at the Batmobile, GCPD officers and a GCPD vehicle. Will Bad Robot respond again? Stay tuned to their Twitter account.

Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jeremy Irons, the highly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

This is a pretty fun photo. One of my favorite franchises is Star Wars and it's nice to see Zack Snyder put a Stormtrooper in a set photo for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Hopefully Jj Abrams can up with a cleaver way to respond. I really like these two going back and fourth joking with each other.

Alec Baldwin, who will soon be starring in Mission: Impossible 5, is set to join forces with Lethal Weapon's Danny Glover to headline Andron, a sci-fi action adventure movie from AMBI Pictures Group, the movie development, finance, production and distribution group owned and run by Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi.

The movie begins when a group of young men and women awake in a dark, claustrophobic maze. They don't remember who they are or how they got stuck in the black labyrinth of Andron. The group must learn to decipher codes, understand the signals, and beat the tests in this mysterious and bizarre place. Out of necessity they struggle to form a bond to survive, while the outside of the world watches and wages on their fate.

Baldwin and Glover will be supported by a cast that includes Michelle Ryan ("EastEnders," Cashback), Skin (lead singer from UK band Skunk Anansie), Jon Kortajarena (A Single Man), Gale Harold ("Queer as Folk") and Leo Howard (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Conan the Barbarian).

This sounds really interesting. It sounds like a film I've seen before but I am drawing an absolute blank. Anyway this is great casting fort the film and it's good to have to veteran actors such as Baldwin and Glover. The film sounds good but I'll have to see a trailer to fully get a sense for the film.

Elizabeth Gillies, the star of Nickelodeon's "Victorious," has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema's sequel/reboot, Vacation. TheWrap reports that she'll star opposite Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day in the Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley film. Helms will play an adult Rusty Griswold in the comedy, while Applegate will appear as his wife. Chase and D’Angelo are set to appear as well, reprising their roles from the original fim and its sequels. The new version of the vacation adventures of the quirky dad and his family will follow Rusty, who now has his own family misadventures on the road.

This is interesting casting. I'm not to familiar with Gillies and her work but it seems to me that she'll be playing Rusty's daughter in the film. I know most people aren't looking forward to this, but I am and the casting for the film has been spot on and I can't wait to see it.
