9-4-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Yesterday, Dwayne Johnson finally revealed that he will be stepping into the role of Black Adam for the upcoming Shazam movie, and now Entertainment Weekly has revealed a number of new tidbits about the production, including that Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema will produce the film and that screenwriter Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Slayer, Turbo) will draft the upcoming film.

"It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself," New Line president Toby Emmerich told the outlet. "It's a DC comic, but it's not a Justice League character, and it's not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies." Emmerich went on to clarify about the film's tone, adding it "will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real." He was also asked about Johnson's role of Black Adam in the film, which he says is a "complex character." "The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne's take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun."

No official release date has been set for the film yet, but a rumor back in June pointed toward a Shazam film opening in 2016 along with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

I honestly don't like this. This is the guy who wrote Jack the Giant Slayer and Turbo which are films that I didn't like one bit. But he did write Shrek Forever After and I really liked that film. Hopefully he can surprise us and write a magnificent script.

Journal De Montreal (via CJAD) has confirmed that the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse will shoot in Montreal once again, with set construction to begin at the end of this year and cameras to roll starting in April of 2015. The production will set up shop in Mel's Studio, the home of this year's X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Little is known about the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, though we do know that it will take place in the 1980s and will focus primarily on the returning cast members from X-Men: First Class. The film will also see some of the original cast members return as well as some younger versions of former characters (such as Gambit and Nightcrawler). Bryan Singer will return to direct the film from a script by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty, and Dan Harris.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.

This isn't surprising at all. All of the X-Men films have had parts or the whole film filmed in Canada so it's like going back home for the studio. I'm' also excited to hear that the film will start shooting fairly soon. After seeing X-Men: Days of Future Past I am dying to see this next installment.

Lionsgate has released the Katniss Rebel Warrior teaser poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 which you can below. Opening in theaters on November 21, the Francis Lawrence-directed third film in the franchise stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross, Lily Rabe, Patina Miller, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Robert Knepper. "Mockingjay - Part 1" finds Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

This is actually a really cool poster. It's finally good to see something with Katniss in promoting the film other than the trailer. I really enjoyed the previous film and I cannot wait to see this film.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures have revealed the new trailer and poster for Horrible Bosses 2, starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz. Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in the sequel. But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor's adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company. Horrible Bosses 2 hits theaters on November 26.

I really love this poster and this trailer is hilarious. I'm really glad to see these guys getting back together again and I really like the additions of Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz and hopefully this film can be as funny as the first (which I really enjoyed).

Cameras are officially rolling on director Breck Eisner's upcoming The Last Witch Hunter, and star Vin Diesel has taken to his Facebook page to reveal the first photo from the film. Captioned with "13th century Kaulder... The Last Witch Hunter begins..." you can check out the photo below. Also starring Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Michael Caine, The Last Witch Hunter follows an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) partners with his natural enemy, a female witch, to stop the covens of NYC from unleashing a plague on humanity.

This is actually a cool image. When I first heard about this film I was somewhat interested in it but now seeing this image it gets me a little excited for the film, The image gives me the feeling that this may not go the route that most people are thinking that it will go. I'll give the film a shot and hopefully it's really good.
