9-3-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Despite saying just two weeks ago that he couldn't decide between playing the titular Shazam or his arch-enemy Black Adam, actor Dwayne Johnson took to Twitter today to announce that he will be playing Black Adam in the upcoming film. No further details are known about the film however, including writer, director, or a release date, but check back here for more on the film as we learn it.

Originally Teth-Adam of Kahndaq, the character first appeared in Marvel Family #1 in 1945 and has gone on to be both a villain and an anti-hero throughout his history. The character has powers comparable to that of Shazam, including flight, strength, agility, lightning manipulation, as well as magic.

Johnson has been in talks to star in a DC film for many years at this point, and earlier this year hinted that Black Adam was one of his favorite characters. A rumor back in June pointed toward a Shazam film opening in 2016 along with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and though there is a DC-based film set for release August 5 of that year, it hasn’t been confirmed as being Shazam.

This news is just awesome. I'm so happy to see The Rock to be playing a chracter in a superhero film. It was rumored for a long time that he could potentially play Lobo, but I think this suits him well. WB has been spot on with their casting recently and you can tell that they are getting ready to go toe to toe with Disney/Marvel. It will be interesting to see who WB/Dc gets to play Shazam! and hopefully he and The Rock have chemistry.

Following the photos that debuted last week, HenryCavill.org has come across even more photos of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Check them out below! Also starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jeremy Irons, the Zack Snyder-directed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

I really like these photos. It's really good to see Clark Kent as a reporter in this film simply becuase it's such an essential element to the character. But let's hope he's not Clark Kent for too long becuase he's got a fight scheduled with the caped crusader on the horizon, I'm honestly so excited for this film and 2016 can't get here quick enough.

Everyone wants to see a female-led Marvel Studios movie at this point. Despite the fact that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige isn't ready to fully commit to the idea, the demand is at an all-time high. Though some fans would like to see Captain Marvel make a jump to the big screen, many are still clamoring for a solo Black Widow film, especially given how much adoration there is for the character following Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Now, the golden child of Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr., is putting his support behind the idea of a Black Widow adventure, as well as spin-offs for the rest of The Avengers. Speaking with USA Today's Entertain This, Downey spoke about the evolving nature of the female characters in the MCU but also said he thinks an established character should be the first female led film. "Doesn’t Scarlett deserve a break?" Downey replied with a laugh when asked about a solo Black Widow film. "Look, I think that the interesting thing particularly after 'Guardians' with Zoe (Saldana), (or) even from the first Iron Man where Pepper was kind of this really – to me the Iron Man franchise would never have taken off without (Gwyneth) Paltrow. There's something about her that grounded the story. She's not your typical lady in a superhero movie, and then by Iron Man 3 she's swallowing serums and putting on suits and kicking (butt) and all that stuff. "It would be kind of more appropriate for a character that already was like a Black Widow (to lead a movie). It just seems like whatever Scarlett does people want to go see it...The funny thing is honestly at this point everyone deserves a franchise. I think Jeremy Renner is - when folks see the Avengers: Age of Ultron he's just a rockstar, a badass. And Ruffalo is pumped. He does great (work). I'd like to hear them talk even more seriously about a Hulk franchise, because that's been one of the toughest ones to get right. But I'm sure that my parent company is feeling expansive and and bold after the summer they've had."

Marvel Studios currently has seven untitled films set for release through 2019, and surely when Iron Man himself thinks there should be a Black Widow film, the powers that be will listen.

I'm with Downey on this one. I mean look it's blatantly obvious that there needs to be a female led superhero film and the time is now! Now I personally don't think there will be a Black Widow film (simply because of how poorly Lucy was received and how it performed at the box office) and Scarlett Johansson hasn't really proven that she can carry a film like this. I believe that with all of the rumors circulating around that we'll see Captain Marvel before Black Widow.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that they are once again joining forces with the Academy Award-winning writer/director Quentin Tarantino on his much anticipated feature, The Hateful Eight. Principal photography will begin in January with a domestic release slated for the fall of 2015. The Hateful Eight marks a continuation of the long-standing relationship between the celebrated filmmaker and the Weinsteins, who have collaborated on all of Tarantino's films, from Reservoir Dogs through Django Unchained.

Commented Bob and Harvey Weinstein, TWC Co-Chairmen: "We are incredibly excited to begin production on 'The Hateful Eight,' as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior. There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over twenty years ago."

I really glad the Weinstein's are picking this up. I mean it's only fair sense Tarantino has brought so much success to the company that they would be stupid not to. I can't tell you how excited I am for this film simply because of Tarantino himself and becuase his last film was Django Unchained (which I absolutely loved).

DreamWorks Animation announced today that How to Train Your Dragon 3 has been pushed back a year. The company announced that How to Train Your Dragon 3, which was facing Finding Dory and The Nice Guys on June 17, 2016, has been pushed back to a June 9, 2017 release. It has that date to itself for now, although right before it comes the second LEGO Movie on May 26 and a week after another Pixar movie is scheduled.

This ins;t surprising at all. Look this film and Finding Dory are both targeting the same market and both would've taken money form each other. Now this move helps both studios and it was the perfect move.
