Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)
When news broke last month about an all female Ghostbusters reboot, some weren't that keen on the idea, but one person who thought it was a good idea was Ghostbusters star himself, Bill Murray. Speaking with The Star at the Toronto International Film Festival, Murray was asked what he thought of the idea, to which he replied:"I'm fine with it, I would go to that movie, and they'd probably have better outfits, too."
Murray went on to fan cast the four roles of the film when asked who he would like to see take it on. "Melissa (McCarthy) would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is so funny - God, she's funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini ("Mad Men") a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."
The outlet also caught up with McCarthy about the film and asked her outright if she's been approached."I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it. Listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them."
Set to begin production next year in New York City, the storyline for the film is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script. Bad Teacher and "The Office" writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg wrote the current draft while The Heat and Bridesmaids director Paul Fieg is in talks to direct.
This is really interesting to hear. Bill Murray is just one of the many reasons why the Ghostbuster franchise has been successful. e's also been part of the reason why a Ghostbusters 3 hasn't happened yet. Now while the studio honestly doesn't care for Murray's opinion, but it's still interesting to hear these choices. I honestly like the choices Murray made and if these were the final choices I would have no problem with them.
Warner Bros. is planning on expanding their DC Cinematic Universe in a big way in the coming years, as one could gather when they announced release dates for nine additional films from 2016 to 2020. We have an idea of what some of these films will be (Justice League, Shazam, Aquaman), but could they be planning one from out of left field?
Latino-Review brings word on a new rumor that WB is developing a feature film of the Legion of Super-Heroes, the 30th century superhero team. The site reports that the studio is taking the project out to writers to see what kind of pitch they can come up with for the film, and that they're hoping this could be their answer to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (which just outgrossed Man of Steel at the domestic box office). Keep in mind, this one is strictly a rumor for the time being, but check back for any updates as we learn them.
First appearing in Adventure Comics #247 back in 1958, the Legion of Super-Heroes is a group of superpowered teens operating as a team in the far future. Some of their notable members include Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Earth Man, Chameleon Girl, and countless others. The big question, should a "Legion" film get made, is how it will tie into the larger DCCU and in particular Man of Steel? Given Superman's association with the team in the source material, could we see Henry Cavill popping up in the film in some form?
This is really interesting news. I'm not really familiar with the Legion of Super-Heroes and it's an odd choice for Warner Bros./DC. Now they could have something up their sleeve and they could surprise us. As for its tie-in to the DC Cinematic universe WB/DC did announce 9 film release dates and they also said that not all films would tie-in togehter so they be making their own separate universe with these characters.
Sony Pictures has brought online a new poster for the upcoming musical Annie, which hits theaters on December 19 with a cast that includes Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, David Zayas and Cameron Diaz. In the Will Gluck-directed adaptation, Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he's her guardian angel, but Annie's self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it's the other way around.
This is a pretty bland trailer. I mean all it is is just showing us the main characters of the film. But I really don't think this poster is any indication of how the film will be. I believe the film will be a great modern-day adaptation of this classic story.
"You two sons of bitches are going to Medical School!" Ice Cube's Captain Dickson tells Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's Schmidt and Jenko at the end of 22 Jump Street. Although that film's credits teased more than twenty faux sequels, a 23 Jump Street is now actually moving forward. Deadline has the news, reporting that 22 Jump Street scribe Rodney Rothman has been hired to draft 23 with Phil Lord and Chris Miller overseeing. There's no word, however, on whether or not they might be planning to return as directors. 23 Jump Street (which may or not may not end up being subtitled "Medical School") will be produced by Lord, Miller, Hill, Tatum and Neal Mortiz.
This isn't shocking at all. 22 Jump Street made a lot of money at the box office and it had positive reviews (not form me) so it's not surprising that there will be a third film. I really did like how it advertised the 20 different Jump Streets and for me personally I hope the third is better than the second.
Lionsgate has today updated its release schedule, setting the Zac Efron and Robert DeNiro comedy Dirty Grandpa for release on December 25, 2015 and Now You See Me 2 for June 10, 2016.
Dan Mazer directs the comedy from a script by John Phillips. It in, an uptight guy is, right before his wedding, tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather, a former Army general, to Florida for spring break. Barry Josephson, Bill Block and Michael Simkin are producing. The Christmas Day release has Dirty Grandpa opening opposite David O. Russell's Joy (starring Jennifer Lawrence), Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible 5 (starring Tom Cruise) and, in limited release, Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu's The Revenant.
Released last year, Now You See Me grossed more than $350 million with the story of "The Four Horsemen," a super-team of the world's greatest illusionists who pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law. Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are all set to reprise their roles with Jon M. Chu directing the sequel from a script by Ed Solomon and Pete Chiarelli. Alex Kurtzma and Bobby Cohen are producing. Now You See Me 2 will open opposite the video game adaptation Uncharted.
This is a really good move by the studios. First off Dirty grandpa sounds hilarious and it will be good counter-programming for the crowd that doesn't want to see Mission Impossible 5. The only problem is that it will still be going up against star wars Episode VII. As for Now You See Me 2 this is also a good release date. It'll offer counter-programming for the crowds that doesn't want to see Uncharted.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
