9-16-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Although it doesn't tell us much that hasn't already been hinted at, an official synopsis for Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron has been released by Walt Disney Pictures today. It reads as follows: Marvel Studios presents "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015.

This isn't something new. We've all know that the synopsis would be something like this but it's still nice to see the synopsis released. Hopefully we get a teaser video or possibly a trailer in the near future.

Paramount Pictures has debuted the new poster (via Empire) for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and you can check it out below. Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. Opening in theaters and IMAX on November 7, Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Mackenzie Foy, Topher Grace and David Gyasi.

I really like this poster. This one (unlike the others) actually show us an actor (in this case Matthew McConaughey) in action. It really gives a sense of what the film is going to be about. I've really liked the trailers so far and I'm really excited to see this movie.

Walt Disney Pictures has released the new post for director Rob Marshall's Into the Woods, starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Johnny Depp, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Punch, Richard Glover, Frances de la Tour, Simon Russell Beale, Joanna Riding and Annette Crosbie.

Opening in theaters on Christmas Day, Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

This poster is actually really creepy. I say that because Meryl Streep looks creepy and in all honesty in make scare some kids. But if you know the background of The Grimm Brothers fairytales then you'll know how creepy their stories were and still are. I'm looking forward to the film and the ensemble cast is one of the main reasons.

Legendary announced its plans to make a feature film based on the cinematic origins of King Kong during this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Their Skull Island, written by Max Borenstein (Godzilla) has now officially announced a director in The Kings of Summer's Jordan Vogt-Roberts and a star in Tom Hiddleston (Marvel's The Avengers, Only Lovers Left Alive). Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring the mysterious and dangerous place is the goal of the new film, which will offer a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions. Universal Pictures will distribute the film on November 4, 2016.

This is excellent casting. Tom Hiddleston is one of the best and brightest actors in the business and it'll be great to see him in something other than a superhero film. When this film was announced I got really excited becuase we get to see an Origin story to one of the greatest movie monsters of all-time King Kong and adding Hiddleston to the cast gets me even more excited.

The Griswolds are at it again. Shooting has begun in Georgia on New Line Cinema's Vacation, starring Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Christina Applegate (Anchorman). The road comedy adventure marks Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley's directorial debut. Following in his father's footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s "favorite family fun park," Walley World.

Rounding out the cast are Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), who plays a river rafting guide; and Skyler Gisondo (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb) and Steele Stebbins (A Haunted House 2), who play Rusty’s sons, James and Kevin. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo reprise their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the classic Vacation comedies.

This synopsis sounds great. It really seems like the studio is trying to recapture the magic of the first films. I really like the casting of the film and I feel that they can come together and give us a great movie. I know some people don't want this but is happening and I cannot wait to see it.
