My Review of LBJ

So I recently watched LBJ and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado................

LBJ (film).png

Lyndon Johnson (played by Woody Harrelson) goes from being a powerful Senate majority leader to a powerless vice president before he becomes the president of the United States following the assassination of John F. Kennedy (played by Jeffrey Donovan).

This is one of the more boring films of the year. LBJ is a polarizing figure in a pivotal point in  American history and there are a lot of bad things he's remembered for and while the film does tackle those subjects it doesn't spend too much time on them. It also takes a look at his life before politics, but again the story glosses over them. It continues the trend bio-pics have been following a lot lately and that's focusing on one event instead of taking equal time on everything and making the figure more well-rounded. Speaking of glossing over, it doesn't help when the film only lasts 97 minutes and that tells you one of two things. Number one, the filmmakers rushed through the process just to make a film or there wasn't enough material for a longer film and you would have to assume the former becasue LBJ had a pretty crazy life especially after the JFK assassination. Performance wise you get some of the better performances of the year especially from Woody Harrellson, but it's all for not simply becasue you don't care. Although films aren't supposed to be history lessons, people who liked LBJ would probably walk away disappointed in a lot of aspects. The biggest problem with the film is that it is just simply generic and it's sad to see that from such a seasoned director in Rob Reiner who just makes a lot of choices that don't make a lot of sense. Overall this film doesn't bring anything new to the table, it doesn't really step out of it's comfort zone and take risks and it has a couple of performances that seem intriguing, but aren't enough for the film to be saved. I give LBJ a 2 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of LBJ, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
