My Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017)

So I recently watched Beauty and the Beast (2017) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Belle (played by Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (played by Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

This is a really good, but not great film. Going into the year, many pegged this film as to be one of the best films of the year and as of right now it is, but there are plenty of films to come that will supplant it. One of the big reasons for the high expectations is the cast that was assembled for the film and every actor fit their respective role well and Emma Watson was the perfect choice to play Belle and who knew she could sing that well? As a whole the film is absolutely gorgeous and the visual effects are just brilliant and eye-pooping that it'll be a shock if it doesn't win Best Visual Effects at next years Oscars. One thing you look for in Disney film musicals is how the songs work out with a live action cast and all of the songs were great and those really bring you back to the 1991 animated film. Storytelling wise is a basic carbon copy of the original film which was to be expected, but there are some minor changes that are hard to notice if you don't pay attention. However, while the film has a great cast, spot on music and some breathtaking visual effects, none of the magic was there and it felt bland to a point where nothing in the film truly felt special like in the animated film. There are a lot of over the top moments and a few of the songs just didn't feel right whilst being sung by a live action cast. Overall this is a great film to see with your kids and loved ones, but don't being expecting a massive different between this film and the animated film. I give Beauty and the Beast (2017) an 8 out of 10.
