Walt Disney Pictures has revealed the new trailer for director Steven Spielberg’s highly-anticipated adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic, The BFG. You can check out The BFG trailer below, The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows. But Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Says Spielberg, “It’s a story about friendship, it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.” Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

Directed by three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg (Bridge of Spies, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan) from a screenplay by Melissa Mathison (E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, The Black Stallion) based on the best-selling novel by Roald Dahl, The BFG stars three-time Tony Award and two-time Olivier Award winner Mark Rylance, newcomer Ruby Barnhill, Penelope Wilton, Jemaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Rafe Spall and Bill Hader. The film is produced by Spielberg, Frank Marshall (Jurassic World, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Sam Mercer (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Sixth Sense) with Kathleen Kennedy (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lincoln), John Madden (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Shakespeare in Love), Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies, Lincoln), Michael Siegel (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Rise of the Guardians), Frank Smith and Naia Cucukov serving as executive producers. Roald Dahl’s novel was first published in 1982 and has been enchanting readers of all ages ever since. Dahl’s books, which also include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “James and the Giant Peach” and “Matilda,” are currently available in 58 languages and have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. Originally created as a bedtime story, “The BFG” was Dahl’s own favorite of all his stories. The BFG opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016. 2016 is the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.

This was a pretty decent trailer. It wasn't groundbreaking by any means, but it did enough to really sell you on the story. The visual effects you spectacular and the animation done for The BFG  himself look really good. I don't really know much about the story since I haven't read the book, but I';m really looking forward to seeing Stephen Spielberg take on a Dahl novel and bring it to the big screen.

Waypoint Entertainment and Linson Entertainment announced today that Oscar winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) will star in Martin Zandvliet’s (Land of Mine) action-thriller The Outsider. Waypoint Entertainment will finance with Ken Kao (The Nice Guys, Knight of Cups) producing alongside John Linson (Sons of Anarchy) and Art Linson (Heat, Fight Club) under their Linson Entertainment banner. BLOOM will handle international sales. With a screenplay penned by Andrew Baldwin (Bastille Day), principal photography is currently set to begin this fall. Set in post-WWII Japan, The Outsider tells the story of an imprisoned American soldier (Leto) who is released with the help of his Yakuza cellmate. Now free, he sets out to earn their respect and repay his debt while navigating the dangerous criminal underworld. The Outsider will mark Zandvliet’s English-language debut following the success of Land of Mine, which was lauded at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and acquired by Sony Pictures as a potential awards film this year. For Leto, this will be just the second film for the selective and transformative actor since his Oscar winning turn in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club. He will next be seen as The Joker in Suicide Squad, which Warner Bros. will release on August 5.

I really enjoy this casting a lot. Jared Leto is just a phenomenal actor and the fact that he was able to take a break from acting and then in his first film back from his hiatus he wins an Oscar, which if you ask me is pretty impressive. I love how he is keeping himself busy with a lot of new projects and this sounds really intriguing. I think he is the perfect fit for the film and the role he is playing and I cannot wait to see what he does in the film with the role.

Sony Pictures is developing a new feature film based on the true story of six middle-aged men who decide to mount an expedition to the North Pole. Deadline has the news, reporting that Will Ferrell is set to headline the untitled project, based on a recent article by Guy Lawson, published last month in the pages of The New York Times Magazine. Titled “An Insurance Salesman and a Doctor Walk Into a Bar, and End Up at the North Pole: The Story of an Accidentally Pioneering Expedition,” the article explores a 1968 expedition led by insurance salesman Ralph Plaisted. He and his team managed to become the first undisputed individuals to make it to the North Pole by surface travel. “His six-man second try, which included a lawyer, a schoolteacher, a doctor and a movie cameraman, relied on four 16-horsepower Bombardier Ski-Doo snowmobiles,” reads The Washington Post’s 2008 obituary for Plaisted. “The 40-year-old adventurer had backing from 50 companies, which donated $132,000, as well as $70,000 worth of equipment, including synthetic outfits based on Eskimo designs.” Although no writer or director is, as of yet, attached to the project, it’s easy to see how the everyman adventure will translate well to the big screen. “Traveling through the twilight of the late arctic winter, the men encountered frozen fiords as well as daunting ice ridges more than 40 feet high,” continues the obituary. “Often they had to shove their 250-pound snowmobiles up and over steep inclines by hand. At times, men and machines fell through the ice. Once, they were confined to their tents for six days, waiting out an arctic storm…. Their biggest challenge, aside from the cold, was crossing gaps in the restless ice, sometimes eight to 10 feet wide over water as deep as two miles. They got across by gunning their snowmobiles and soaring like arctic Evil Knievels.” Will Ferrel is, of course, no stranger to the North Pole having famously played North Pole resident Buddy the Elf in Jon Favreau‘s modern Christmas classic, Elf. Check back for updates on this new project as they become available.

This is a interesting film to hear about. Will Ferrell hasn't been in too many films like this so I'm glad he is stepping out of his comfort zone for a role in this particular film. Now the question remains whether or not this will be a drama or a comedy, but I think we can expect a little bit of both especially with Ferrell in the lead role. I'm very curious to see who will be the director because that will tell a whole lot about what direction the film is going in.

In the wake of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. Pictures has moved up the release date for their Wonder Woman solo movie from June 23, 2017 to June 2, 2017.  In another move, Warners has pushed back its Andy Serkis-directed Jungle Book: Origins a whole year, from October 6, 2017 to October 19, 2018. That’s a big move, which many would read as a way to further distance it from Disney’s rival Jungle Book, which opens next weekend and is earning rave reviews. Most mysteriously, Warners has dated two untitled DC Cinematic Universe movies for October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. There’s no telling what these films could be, whether they are the much-hyped Ben Affleck-directed Batman solo film, a Superman solo adventure, or something else. An untitled WB event film is now also slated for October 6, 2017, taking over the date from Serkis’ Jungle Book. Starring Gal Gadot as the title hero, Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine (Star Trek), Robin Wright (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (the “Harry Potter” films, The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Exodus: Gods and Kings, Snowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In)  Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, Nymphomaniac: Vol. I) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).  Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film is being produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven serving as executive producers. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic story, Andy Serkis’ directorial debut Jungle Book: Origins stars Freida Pinto, Matthew Rhys and Rohan Chand in the live-action roles, rather than joining those doing the performance capture for the animals as Serkis himself did in the “Apes” and “Lord of the Rings” movies. Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Jack Reynor and Tom Hollander make up that performance capture cast. The prequel film is written by Callie Kloves with Serkis directing and co-producing with “Harry Potter” screenwriter Steve Kloves.

There are a few moving pieces to this puzzle so let's take them one at a time. On the Wonder Woman front, I like the move because it shows that the production is moving at a quicker pace and that the film will be done a little bit earlier and it does show that they do have a lot of confidence in the film by moving it up 3 weeks. As for  Jungle Book: Origins, I totally understand the move. I mean It puts you at enough of a distance for you to not come out so soon after The Jungle Book from Disney and you don't have the expectations of a film having to be better than another film so soon and plus it gives Serkis a little more time to work out the fine details and allow him to finish the third Planet of the Apes film. The other 3 news release dates get me pretty excited because I would put money on one of those three being a solo Batman film, Man of Steel 2 and a random project which I'm going to assume is a Lobo film, I understand all of these moves and they make a lot of sense.

TheWrap is reporting that longtime Christopher Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception) will be reuniting with the filmmaker for Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Dunkirk, which Nolan will direct from his own original screenplay. Murphy will be one of the more senior members of the cast against a crop of newcomers who include Fionn Whitehead (ITV’s “Him”), Jack Lowden (’71), Aneurin Barnard (Citadel), and One Direction singer/songwriter Harry Styles.  Recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie) and Tom Hardy (The Revenant) will be the more experienced members of what is said will be a largely young/unknown ensemble cast. The large scale film will be shot on a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film photography for maximum image quality and high impact immersion. Shooting will begin in May using many of the real locations of the true-life events, which form the background for the story. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner Emma Thomas. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing Dunkirk worldwide and has slated the film for a July 21, 2017 release. The film will be released theatrically on IMAX, 70mm, 35mm and all other screens. Murphy will next be seen in amid the ensemble cast of Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire, alongside Brie Larson and Armie Hammer.

I really love this casting. I'm also not surprised by the casting simply because Christopher Nolan loves working with people he's worked with in the past and he's worked with Cillian Murphy on a lot of films so this was a no-brainer decision for Nolan. He's joining a pretty stacked cast with the exception being Harry Styles which for the life of me, I can't understand why he's in the film. Unless he can give a Logan Lerman in Fury type of performance, then I don't want him in the film. The rest of the cast is solid and this film has a lot of potential and that fact it is coming out in just a little over a year really gets me excited.

Although there’s still no confirmation as to whether or not Charlize Theron will playing the main villain, Universal Pictures‘ upcoming Fast 8 has, per The Wrap, added Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju as one of said villain’s henchmen. Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray is directing the April 14, 2017 release, which is planned to launch a new trilogy of films. Fast 8 will be followed by a ninth film to be released April 19, 2019 and a tenth film planned to hit theaters April 2, 201. Fast and Furious 8, 9 and 10 aren’t the only films new that Universal has planned for the franchise, either. It was recently revealed that plans are underway for both Fast and Furious spinoffs and prequels. Kristofer Hivju joins a cast that is confirmed to include franchise regulars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black reprising their roles as street racers-turned-international criminals-turned-super-secret agents. Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson and Kurt Russell are expected to return as well. Principal photography Fast 8 is planned to take place in both New York and Atlanta, Georgia. Recent reports suggest that two other possible locations for the film could be the previously-unexplored Russia and Iceland. Kristofer Hivju, best known for playing wildling leader Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones, has appeared on the big screen in films like Force Majeure and After Earth.

This is pretty interesting casting. Now with this casting, it shoots down a lot of people's dream choice of Helen Mirren stepping into the villainous role and being the mother of Luke Evans's character and Jason Staham's character, but I think this guy will do. I don't know a about him considering I've never watched Game of Thrones, but he looks like he could be a guy that could cause a few problems. I'm glad the franchise is coming back after the emotional roller coaster that was Furious 7 and I can't wait to the see what's in store for this film.
