So I recently watched The Witch and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado......
In 1630 New England, panic and despair envelops a farmer (played by Ralph Ineson), his wife (played by Kate Dickie) and four of their children when youngest son Samuel suddenly vanishes. The family blames Thomasin (played by Anya Taylor-Joy), the oldest daughter who was watching the boy at the time of his disappearance. With suspicion and paranoia mounting, twin siblings Mercy (played by Ellie Grainger) and Jonas (played by Lucas Dawson) suspect Thomasin of witchcraft, testing the clan's faith, loyalty and love to one another.
This was an absolutely terrifying film. Lately horror films have basically become a laughingstock due to the fact they are predictable and they use so many cliches that just get boring and repetitive. This film has none of those and it is far from predictable and this may very well be the best horror film of the 2010's. It it some ways has a mixture of Pan's Labyrinth and The Conjuring which both have gotten critical praise and this film will as well. The scares are perfectly timed and there aren't too many of them for the film to feel boring and the scares are just so unexpected that it just makes the film so much more watchable. One of the things that really helps a horror movie be successful is the performances and the performances in this film are just outstanding especially from Anya Taylot-Joy who could become a star in the near future. The film is also the directing debut of Robert Eggers who just understands the era and the dialogue is almost perfect and it just fits in so well. The film takes you on a lot of twists and turns that it just keeps you so involved with what's going on. There are a few moments that seem forced and unnecessary, but this film is fairly close to a horror masterpiece. I give The Witch a 9 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Witch, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
