So I recently watched The Hateful Eight and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
While racing toward the town of Red Rock in post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunter John "The Hangman" Ruth (played by Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (played by Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (played by Samuel L. Jackson) and a man who claims to be a sheriff (played by Walton Goggins). Hoping to find shelter from a blizzard, the group travels to a stagecoach stopover located on a mountain pass. Greeted there by four strangers, the eight travelers soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.
This film is disappointing, yet fascinating all at the same time. Quinton Tarantino is easily one of the top directors in Hollywood today and he has basically done nothing but fantastic films that will be remembered for the rest of time and this film isn't one of those films. Nothing about the film is memorable and that's shocking coming from Tarantino who at least puts a memorable scene or quote in each film. The story itself is a little bit like Clue in the sense of them trying to find out who the one mole is in the group. The performances in the film are pretty spectacular and there is a great comeback performance from Jennifer Jason Leigh who is absolutely hilarious and mesmerizing and that's a credit to Tarantino who seems to have the magic touch with actors/actresses who haven't been relevant in years and getting the absolute best out of them. Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson also give some pretty great supporting performances that really help carry along the film at the times where it get boring. That's another thing about the film and its that the film is really boring and while Tarantino is the master of dialogue, the film has way too much dialogue where you just get overwhelmed with 8 or more people constantly talking all the time. The film does have quite a few beautiful shots that really capture the mountain landscape and the 70mm push that the studio gave the film and Tarantino wanted the film to be in just doesn't work and it's really nothing special. Overall this film had a lot of disappointments, but there were some really great performances and some really beautiful cinematography that is hard to compete with. I give The Hateful Eight a 6 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Hateful Eight, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
