My Review of Freeheld

So I recently watched Freeheld and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.........

Freeheld Movie Poster.jpg

The true love story of Laurel Hester (played by Julianne Moore) and Stacie Andree (played by Ellen Page) and their fight for justice. A decorated New Jersey police detective, Laurel is diagnosed with cancer and wants to leave her hard earned pension to her domestic partner, Stacie. However the county officials, Freeholders, conspire to prevent Laurel from doing this. Hard-nosed detective Dane Wells (played by Michael Shannon), and activist Steven Goldstein (played by Steve Carell), unite in Laurel and Stacie's defense, rallying police officers and ordinary citizens to support their struggle for equality.

This was a really interesting film. First off the cast in this film is amazing and it includes 4 former Academy Award nominated actors with one having won an award. When you have that type at this time of year it should scream nothing but Oscar, Oscar, Oacar and unfortunately the film doesn't live up to those expectations. The performances are spectacular and Julianne Moore shows why she is one of the greatest actresses of all-time. Ellen Page also gives a spectacular performance and she really had some great chemistry with Julianne Moore. Steve Carell and Michael Shannon also give outstanding performances in supporting roles. The film does have it's problems and one of those is the relationship between Moore and Page which didn't seem real or believable eventhough they had great chemistry. The film does present a good message of equal rights for both lesbian and gay couples, but it sometimes forces the issue down your throat. Overall this is a film that you should check out, but while it brings up an important issue, it can sometimes be to overwhelming. I give Freeheld a 6.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Freeheld, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
