Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

This weekend, word broke about actors testing for the various roles in Lionsgate‘s upcoming Power Rangers reboot, and the studio has officially announced the first cast member. Naomi Scott (The Martian, “Terra Nova”) will star as Kimberly, AKA The Pink Ranger! Other actors reportedly up for parts in the film include KJ Apa (“Shortland Street”), Austin Butler (“Arrow,” “The Carrie Diaries”) and Mitchell Hope (“Descendants”) for the role of Jason/The Red Ranger and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (“Chasing Life”) and Brian “Sene” Marc (“Major Crimes”) in contention for Zack/The Black Ranger. Screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) wrote the screenplay for Power Rangers, which is described as a modern reinvention of the long-running franchise. In it, a group of ordinary high school kids find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world. Original creator Haim Saban is acting as producer along with Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur. Saban’s “Power Rangers” franchise is the brainchild of Haim Saban, creator and producer of the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” hit series that launched in 1993. Following its introduction, “Power Rangers” quickly became the most-watched children’s television program in the United States and remains one of the top-rated and longest running boys live-action series in television history. The series follows the adventures of a group of ordinary teens who “morph” into superheroes and save the world from evil. It is seen in more than 150 markets around the world, translated into numerous languages and is a mainstay in the most prominent international children’s programming blocks. 20th Century Fox previously released two feature films, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997.

This is great news to hear. As I said earlier in the week when she was rumored for the part, she was the one I wanted for the role simply because I had just seen her in The Martian and because she was about 3 inches taller than the other girl that was being looked at. I've looked on her social media after the announcement and she seems really excited for the opportunity and even got praise from Amy Jo Johnson who played Kimberly on the tv show. I'm glad we are finally getting some casting announcements and I expect a few more in the next few weeks.

A new Star Wars: Episode VIII casting rumor has just broken as Collider today alleges that actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has joined the cast of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. The film, which has already starting filming in Ireland, previously cast Benicio Del Toro for a villainous role with recent reports also suggesting that, after whatever happens in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, at least one familiar face will be returning. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who also recently appeared in the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending, previously worked with J.J. Abrams on the short-lived spy series “Undercovers.” She was also selected by Tom Hanks to play a leading role in his 2011 directorial feature Larry Crowne (check out our Gugu Mbatha-Raw interview from the Larry Crowne set) and can be seen coming up as Plumette, the feather duster, in Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action Beauty and the Beast. That film will hit March 17, 2017 with Star Wars: Episode VIII arriving just over two months later on May 26. If this casting rumor pans out, 2017 is shaping up to be a very good year for Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Very little is known about the eighth “Saga” chapter of the hugely successful sci-fi fantasy franchise other than that Johnson is attached to both write and direct and that Del Toro is confident he’ll appear as the villain. The film will be produced by Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy and will follow both J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as the franchise’s first “anthology” film, director Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

If this is true then this is great casting. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a really young and talented actress and from what little I've seen of her, she has been pretty darn good and she seems to fit into the universe well. Now we don't know who she is playing, but it adds to the mystery and it makes me very curious as to who she will be in Star Wars universe. Star Wars Episode VIII's cast is already shaping up to great and I cannot wait to see this film.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has announced (via People) that Auli’i Cravalho of Oahu has landed the role of Moana in the November 23, 2016 release.  “From baby time to now, I wanted to be a Disney princess and then I wanted to be a singer or an actress,” says the 14-year-old Cravalho,  “Moana is such an amazing character. She’s brave, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to get it, and I think that’s something that I can relate to as well. I just love watching how she goes along in this wonderful movie and grows as a person and helps her culture along the way.”  While confirmed for the lead role of Moana Waialiki, a young girl who goes on a monster-packed sea voyage, Cravalho also confirmed that her co-star Dwayne Johnson (Furious 7, San Andreas) will actually sing as the demi-god Maui who aids her on the journey. In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore. Directed by animation vets Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid), Moana will be released on November 23, 2016.

I think is pretty interesting casting. This will be her first feature-length film ever and I like that it will be in an animated film so that a lot of pressure is lifted off of her shoulders. I also like how it'll be set in her home state of Hawaii and that it's making her dream come true by being a Disney princess. This film is shaping up to be really funny and great and I think that she'll gel well with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Marvel Studios has announced a bit of a shift in their plans for Marvel Phase Three with the announcement of a new movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp, featuring the return of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang alongside Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne. The movie will debut on July 6, 2018, the original release date for Marvel’s Black Panther, which will now open in theaters on February 16, 2018. The announcement comes following the success of this summer’s Ant-Man, which brought in $178.5M at the domestic box office and $231.3M internationally for a global total of $409.8M. In addition, Marvel has announced that the long-awaited Captain Marvel film will shift from its November 2, 2018 release date to March 8, 2019. Finally, Marvel has set release dates for three more mystery films which will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. Which movies do you think will hit on those days? The other films for Marvel’s Phase Three include Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016, Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017, their Untitled Spider-Man Film on July 28, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017, Avengers: Infinity War Part I on May 4, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War Part II May 3, 2019, and Inhumans on July 12, 2019.

These are all really interesting moves. First off I love that they are doing an Ant-Man sequel after the success of the first film and I really love the title and that this film is going to be apart of Phase 2 and the first film after an Avengers film just like the first film earlier this year. I love the move of Black Panther to February because it sort cements Marvel's place in that month and it puts it out a month before DC's Aquaman comes out and that it is coming out in Black History Month is also really great to see. It also makes sense for Captain Marvel to move back because if it didn't then that would make the 4th MCU film coming out in 2018 and that's just too much work for the studio so pushing it to 2019 makes a lot of sense. As for the other three dates it marks when Phase 4 is going to being and I'm very interested to see what film will be announce for those dates. My predictions.... Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Runaways and Doctor Strange 2.

20th Century Fox has officially announced the X-Men: Apocalypse synopsis! It reads as follows: “Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.” In addition to Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult as Magneto, Professor X, Mystique, and Beast, the film will also see the return of Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Lucas Till as Havok and newcomers Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee. Oscar Isaac is starring as the film’s title antagonist. Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.

I really love this synopsis. Now it doesn't reveal a whole lot of information that a lot of us didn't really know, but it just gets me excited because I feel that we might get a trailer sometime next week and that the film is coming out 7 months from now. I think this is the perfect way for the franchise to go after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past. This is one of my anticipated films of 2016 and I cannot wait to see the film.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the Beast of the Apocalypse himself Ron Perlman (Hellboy, “Sons of Anarchy”) has joined the cast of Warner Bros. “Harry Potter” spin-off film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Perlman will reportedly play a goblin in the film which is currently filming in England. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo, Gemma Chan, Jenn Murray and newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove. The David Yates-directed film follows Newt Scamander (Redmayne), the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbuster Harry Potter features; J.K. Rowling; Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films; and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the franchise. Rowling herself is supplying the screenplay. Warner Bros. Pictures has the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set for a worldwide release in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.

I absolutely love this casting. Ron Perlman is a tremendous actor and I love just about anything he is in. He like Jon Voight (who cast earlier in the week) can play both the hero and the villain and I'm really curious to see who he will play becuase he could variety of different characters. This cast just keeps getting batter and better with each announcement and it builds my excitement and anticipation for this film.
