My Top 10 MCU Films

So with The Avengers: Age of Ultron being released this weekend I thought it would be fitting to rank the films of the MCU. Since there is now 12 films, one film will be left out and for those wondering this top 10 list will also include Ant-Man. So without further ado...

Films left out: Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The First Avenger

10. The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk poster.jpg

This film may have its problems, but it recasted everyone from Ang Lee's HULK film and they were all upgrades. For years, Bruce (played by Edward Norton) has been living in the shadows, pursued by the military and haunted by the rage within. But traveling the world in secrecy isn't easy, and as hard as he tries Bruce can't get Betty Ross (played by Liv Tyler) off his mind. The daughter of Bruce's nemesis Gen. Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (played by William Hurt), Betty represents everything that is beautiful in the world to a man who lives his life on the run. Eventually, Bruce returns to civilization and faces the wrath of The Abomination. While the Hulk may be a formidable force of nature, The Abomination is decidedly more powerful, and determined to destroy Bruce Banner. Created when KGB agent Emil Blonsky (played by Tim Roth) exposed himself to a higher dose of the same radiation that transformed Bruce into The Hulk, The Abomination is unable to change back into human form and holds Bruce accountable for his frightful condition. With time fast running out for both Bruce and The Hulk, New York City is about to become the ultimate urban battle zone as two of the most powerful creatures ever to walk the earth clash in a massive, no-holds-barred fight to the finish. The Incredible Hulk has a rating of 67% on rottentomatoes.com.

9. Iron Man 3

While this may not be the best MCU film, it is however a great Shane Black film. When Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man? Iron Man 3 was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and it has a rating of 79% on rottentomatoes.com.

8. Iron Man

This is the film that started everything and I'm thankful that it did. Billionaire industrialist and genius inventor Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to protect the world as Iron Man. Iron Man was nominated for 2 Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Editing and it has a rating of 93% on rottentomatoes.com.

7. Thor: The Dark World
Thor - The Dark World poster.jpg

This film is amazing and while it sits behind its predacessor, I often flip them back and forth over time. Set one year after The Avengers, Thor battles to save the Nine Realms from a mysterious enemy older than the universe itself. A primeval race known as The Dark Elves who are led by Malekith (played by Christopher Eccleston), who is out for revenge, intends to plunge the universe into darkness. Confronted by an enemy that even Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) and Asgard cannot overcome, Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) must reunite with Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) and set out on a dangerous journey that will force him to make the ultimate sacrifice. Thor: The Dark World has a rating of 66% on rottentomatoes.com.

6. The Avengers: Age of Ultron
Avengers Age of Ultron.jpg

While it doesn't live up to its predecessor, it's still a really fun film. When Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America (played by Chris Evans), Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), The Incredible Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner), are put to the ultimate test as they battle to save the planet from destruction at the hands of the villainous Ultron (played by James Spader). The Avengers: Age of Ultron has a rating of 75% on rottentomatoes.com.

5. Ant-Man

This film was a lot of fun and it is eaisly the best visually made film from Marvel to date. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (played by Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Ant-Man has a rating of 80% on rottentomatoes.com.

4. Thor

This for the longest time was my favorite solo MCU film. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, Thor is banished to Earth where he is forced to live among humans. When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero. Thor has a rating of 77% on rottentomatoes.com.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy
The five Guardians, sporting various weapons, arrayed in front of a backdrop of a planet in space.

This film is just a whole lot of fun and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan (played by Lee Pace), a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana) and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (played by Dave Bautista). But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance. Guardians of the Galaxy was nominated for 2 Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects and Best Makeup & Hairstyling and it has a rating of 91% on rottentomatoes.com.

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America The Winter Soldier.jpg

This is the film that has changed the entire MCU for forever. After the cataclysmic events in New York with his fellow Avengers, Steve Rogers, aka Capt. America (played by Chris Evans), lives in the nation's capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) and a new ally, the Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie), Rogers struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, but he and his team soon come up against an unexpected enemy. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and it has a rating of 89% on rottentomatoes.com.

1. The Avengers
 TheAvengers2012Poster.jpg

This is easily on of the greatest comic book films of all-time and it is a dream come true for e a lot of people. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. The Avengers was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and it has a rating of 92% on rottentomatoes.com.
