So I recently watched War Dogs and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.......
With the war in Iraq raging on, Efraim Diveroli (played by Jonah Hill) offers childhood friend David Packouz (played by Miles Teller) a chance to make big bucks by becoming an international arms dealer. Together, they exploit a government initiative that allows businesses to bid on U.S. military contracts. Starting small allows the duo to rake in money and live the high life. They soon find themselves in over their heads after landing a $300 million deal to supply Afghan forces, a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people.
This is one of the strangest films of the year. The film is based on a true story and the things you see these two do that they actually did in real lief is astonishing and how they got away with it for so long is astonishing. Jonah Hill and Miles Teller work great together and you get a lot of development from the two to get you as an audience member attached. even when they are off screen away from each other, they both give really solid performances. The main focus of the story is obvious on paper, but it often times gets lost in the shuffle and the film tends to go in a completely different direction. Director Todd Phillips has directed some of the funniest films of all-time and while there are some really good subtle jokes, some of them are too obvious and some are pretty predictable. The film is also a pretty serious subject and it honestly feels like the filmmakers want to make fun of it. After you start to finally get invested in the film, it takes a turn for the worse and it just so boring and then after a while it picks back up, but by the time it does, you are just ready for the film to be over. Overall this film had a lot of potential for various reasons, but it fails to capitalize of what it has working well for it. I give War Dogs a 3.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of War Dogs, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
