My Review of Don't Breathe

So I recently watched Don't Breathe and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Don't Breathe (2016 film).png

Rocky (played by Jane Levy), Alex (played by Dylan Minnette) and Money (played by Daniel Zovattoare) three Detroit thieves who get their kicks by breaking into the houses of wealthy people. Money gets word about a blind veteran (played by Stephen Lang) who won a major cash settlement following the death of his only child. Figuring he's an easy target, the trio invades the man's secluded home in an abandoned neighborhood. Finding themselves trapped inside, the young intruders must fight for their lives after making a shocking discovery about their supposedly helpless victim.

This film is absolutely terrifying. The main problem with a lot of horror films today is that they rely way too heavily on cliches that have been seen over and over again and this film uses them in such a way that it makes the film a breath of fresh air. It's one of the most suspenseful films of the year and it just keeps you guessing the entire time. The performances are outstanding and Stephen Lang as a horror villain may go down as one of the more iconic villains portrayed on the big screen in a long time. The film is gory in a nice and subtle way to where it doesn't overshadow the story and make itself bigger than it should be. A lot of the aspects in this film are just absolutely creepy and while you've heard a lot of hype about the twist, it's all true as it may be the best twist in years. While Fede Alverez didn't do that well with the Evil Dead remake, he rebounds nicely with this film and he should probably stick more to original films than remakes. While the film is terrifying, some of the scares are cheap and you can predict them, but the scares are placed perfectly throughout the film to where you're not overwhelmed by it. Overall this film is one of the scariest films of the decade and it has everything you need for a tremendously solid horror film. I give Don't Breahte a 9.5 out of 10.
