My Review of Triple 9

So I recently watched Triple 9 and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado..........

Bullets fly on the Atlanta freeway as armed thieves make their getaway following a bank robbery in broad daylight. Unhappy with the results, ruthless gangster Irina Vlaslov (played by Kate Winslet) orders the men to pull off another job. One member of the team is Marcus Belmont (played by Anthony Mackie), a crooked cop who gets saddled with Chris Allen (played by Casey Affleck), his new but incorruptible police partner. As Belmont and his cohorts lay the groundwork for the heist, they come up with a devious plan to use Allen as their pawn.

This was a pretty disappointing film. From the trailers the film looked as if it was going to be a violent heist film following this group going from heist to heist trying to beat both the mob and the police and instead you just get a longer drawn out film that doesn't have much action at all. The film just tries builds and builds to something big by just showing a bunch of random stuff that has no ultimate payoff. There are a lot of sub-plots in the film and they just fit in well with the overall story and it times the film seemed like it was trying to be a few different genres at once. The performances in the film are outstanding for a lot of the cast it was great to see them step outside of their normal roles and do something different for the betterment of the film. The cinematography is also spectacular as you get a lot of wide sweeping shots of Atlanta that really just bring you in the film and make you feel like you are there. While the performances are great, none of the characters are remotely likable and every time someone does something you just ask yourself "why did they do that"?. The film hits the right mark at a 115 minute runtime, but the the unnecessary subplots just make the film drag on longer than it should. There are a few heart-pounding moments in the film that keep you on the edge of your seat, but the majority of them come at the end of the film and there is no emotional build up to anything that happens and the last 20 minutes are just really unnecessary. Overall this film had the potential to be an outstanding film amidst of the year of the comic book film and the film just had too many subplots and not enough character development to give you as audience member a reason to care for any decisions they make, I give Triple 9 a 6 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Triple 9, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
