My Review of The Dark Knight

With Batman v. Superman being released this weekend I thought I would review what I think is both the best Batman stand-alone film and the best Superman stand-alone film. First on deck is my favorite film of all-time and by far the best Batman film of all-time... The Dark Knight. So without further ado...

With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon (played by Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (played by Aaron Eckhart), Batman (played by Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (played by Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.

This is an absolutely perfect film. Comic books are the hardest films to make because you have to make a film that not only interests the fans of the source material, but also the casual audience that really isn't informed on the characters in the film and this film does that and a whole lot more. Christopher Nolan took the genre into a whole new direction where these films can be taken seriously by major critics who typically don't go for these types of films. He is a very technical director and everything about the film is technically sound when it comes to editing, cinematography, makeup, sound, etc.. Hans Zimmer composes one the best musical soundtracks that has ever been heard on the big screen and it all fits in well with every frame. As for the performances it's hard to pick a point to start at because all the performances are fantastic. Since it is a Batman film you do have to start with the Caped Crusader himself who is played by Christian Bale. Bale really continues to develop the character from what we saw in Batman Begins. However you know that a Batman film is good when the title character doesn't even give the best performance which goes to Heath Ledger for his portrayal of The Joker. Ledger captures the psychotic nature of the character from the comics and the way he was just able to out think the greatest detective of all-time is just brilliant which makes the character a formidable foe. Had Ledger not tragically passed away, this role would have launched him into stardom and quite possibly legendary status. He was rewarded for his efforts with an Oscar that he rightfully deserved. The other performances are stellar and they all really mesh well with the story and they each have the moments and developed so well. The story in a way isn't a really typical story, but it's one that can test a characters morals and how far they are willing to go to stop a madman and the message is strong and resonates well. Overall this is by far the best comic book film of all-time and there is no debate. I give The Dark Knight a 10 out 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Dark Knight, what would you rate it, are you excited for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
