My Review of Miracles From Heaven

So I recently watched Miracles from Heaven and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Anna Beam (played by Kylie Rogers) lives with a rare, incurable disorder that leaves her unable to digest food. Despite the dire diagnosis, devoted mom Christy (played by Jennifer Garner) relentlessly searches for a way to save her beloved daughter. Everything changes in an instant when Anna tells an amazing story of a visit to heaven after surviving a headlong tumble into a tree. Her family and doctors become even more baffled when the young girl begins to show signs of recovering from her fatal condition.

This was a surprisingly good film. The film is made for a specific audience and unlike other films in this genre it doesn't really bash those that don't believe in such stories as this and it sorta gives them a fair voice in the film. It really riles heavily on the performance of Jennifer Garner who is absolutely spectacular in this film and she really carries the film along to at least keep your interest and emotionally connected to the story. As for the story, it felt really cheesy and forced and while the filmmakers had good intentions with the film, it just seems that the point didn't really get across fully. The film does reach for the emotional moments and sometimes there are emotional moments thrown into the film without any real substance. Another thing with the story is the fact that we've seen this film before and it was called Heaven is for Real that came out two years ago and both of the films follow similar paths when it comes to the story and the mimic each other beat by beat. Seriously they both deal with kids who have conditions/surgery, they both speak to god, people in the town don't believe the family or the child and each film has one major movie star in the film just to help get some publicity for the film (Greg Kinnear in Heaven is for Real and Jennifer Garner in this film). It's not the case of bashing the true story, but the film just feels repeated and the story is one we've heard and seen before. Overall this was a film that has one great standout performance and it offers everyone a voice of belief, but the story is unoriginal and a lot of the film feels forced. I give Miracles from Heaven a 5 out of 10.
