So I recently watched Straight Outta Compton and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
This film was absolutely fantastic. Going into the film I am a fan of N.W.A., but I didn't really know much about them and then doing a little reading before seeing the movie and then watching all of these events come to life on screen was amazing and it allowed me to help better connect to the story of this revolutionary group. The movie was able to hit on a lot of different levels as it showed the dramatic rise and fall of the group, some really subtle comedy, a couple action scenes and a few really emotional moments. I really loved the performances from everyone in the film and the real standouts were O'Shea Jackson Jr. as his father Ice Cub, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre and Jason Mitchell as Easy-E and they showed that have some great acting chops and they will be in a lot of films to come. It hit the big key points of the groups short-lived history from 1986 to 1991 and the film went into in-depth detail about those points. It's also a film that has a lot of relevance to what is currently going on in our world when it comes to police violence and brutality and I think we all need to see this film simply because of shows some of the things that are going in our country today. I will say that the film does go a little too long, but it's understandable because of how much went into the groups lives and also they glossed over a few things quickly and didn't as deep into detail as they did with other events, but you kind of expect that from a bio-pic because people want to be shown in a good light. Overall this is a fantastic film and it easily one of my favorite films of the year. I give Straight Outta Compton a 9.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Straight Outta Compton, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
