20th Century Fox has released the new trailer for director Ridley Scott’s The Martian, opening in theaters on October 2. You can watch The Martian trailer below. During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, The Martian features a star-studded cast that also includes Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty), Kristen Wiig (Welcome to Me, The Skeleton Twins), Kate Mara (“House of Cards,” Fantastic Four), Michael Pena (Fury, End of Watch), Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom,” Dumb and Dumber To), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Children of Men) and Donald Glover (“Community,” Mystery Team). The Martian is produced by Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Michael Schaefer, Mark Huffam and Aditya Sood.

I really liked the trailer, but I think it showed way too much. Now I have heard from people who have read the book and they say that we haven't seen anything yet. While that may be true from what I've seen so far I feel like I know the entire movie. If you pay attention to very end of the trailer they show something that looks like a space pod flying off of Mars and it looks only big for one person. I'm looking forward to the film, but I feel like I know the entire movie and that might take away my possible enjoyment of the film. Like I said I'm looking forward to the film simply because I want Ridley Scott to be Ridley Scott again and for him to have another great film and this could be it and I hope it is.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Disney for a live-action film based on their popular theme park attraction, Jungle Cruise. Writer-director pair John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Focus, Crazy, Stupid, Love.) will pen the script for the film. They are currently not attached to direct at this time. “[Disney production president] Sean Bailey and Disney have been awesome partners and now the fun part begins,” Johnson said. “We’re starting to put in the work with Requa and Ficarra and our creative team. Fired up about this one. Here we go.” A film adaptation of the ride, one of the original rides from the opening day of Disneyland, was previously in development with a script by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Spider-Man 2, “Smallville”). Another attempt was made in 2011 with Disney officially announcing an adaptation starring Toy Story‘s own Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Neither versions ultimately materialized. Should this version become a reality, it would join the ranks of films Disney has created based on their theme park attractions, including The Country Bears, The Haunted Mansion, Mission to Mars, Tomorrowland, and the most popular, Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnson can next be seen in the CIA comedy Central Intelligence, and heard in the animated Disney film Moana, both of which hit theaters next year.

This is terrific and perfect casting. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the charismatic actors on the planet and every role you put him in you see bits an pieces of his real life persona. I also like the sounds of the film. It's the perfect film for The Rock to spread his wings even more and Disney has had success with other rides becoming films so to them this is a no-brainer. Anything you put The Rock in I'll go see even if it is really terrible.

Following his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on both Thor: The Dark World and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, screenwriter Christopher Yost is paying a visit to Eternia. According to Variety, Yost will lend his talents to Columbia Pictures’ long-gestating Masters of the Universe movie. Originally launched as a popular Mattel toy line in 1982, “Masters of the Universe” spawned several animated series (including the female-drive spinoff cartoon series, “She-Ra: Princess of Power”) along with a 1987 live-action film. Directed by Gary Goddard, the first Masters of the Universe movie stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor and, in one of her very first big screen roles, a young Courteney Cox as Julie Winston, a teenage character created specifically for the film. Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam, who has the ability to transform into a warrior called He-Man. As He-Man, Adam becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor. The Masters of the Universe movie has gone through a number of writers and directors in the years it’s been in development, with G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu the initial choice to helm the live-action project. Our last update on the status of the film came earlier this year, when it was announced that Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) had completed his own draft of the screenplay. Although no director has signed on, Wadlow was said to be up for the job at one point. Before his take on the script, Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Terry Rossio turned in a draft. Masters of the Universe is being produced by Sony and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.

I think this is a pretty great choice. One thing that I have loved about the MCU is the writers they get and while Thor: The Dark World was the strongest movie, I still thought it was pretty well written and I think Yost is a good selection. He knows how to write a film about a mystical world and universe and that's exactly what Eternia is. Eventhough I didn't get to watch the original series, I have watched re-runs and newer incarnations of the series and I have been looking forward to this film for a long time and I hope it can finally happen.

The upcoming sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, titled Fifty Shades Darker, is said to be “more of a thriller” than the previous film, and so Universal Pictures is reportedly zeroing in on a director known for taut thrillers: James Foley. Deadline states that Foley, famous for such films as Glengarry Glen Ross and the Halle Berry thriller Perfect Stranger, is the clear frontrunner for the gig, although negotiations have not yet begun partly because the studio is still deciding whether or not to hire their desired helmer to make the second film back-to-back with the third, Fifty Shades Freed. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter confirms Foley as the top choice but also lists former music video director Mark Pellington (The Mothman Prophecies, Arlington Road) and Tanya Wexler (who made the vibrator comedy/romance Hysteria) as being still in the mix. Part of the reason Foley has the edge over the other two is he has earned praise for helming a dozen episodes of Netflix’s hit “House of Cards,” which Fifty Shades‘ Dana Brunetti also produces. The erotically-charged romance Fifty Shades of Grey capitalized on it’s naughty-but-not-too-naughty aesthetic to the tune of almost $570 million worldwide and counting, although on-set conflict between author E L James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson led to the latter and screenwriter Kelly Marcel opting not return for the sequel, which will be penned by James’ husband Niall Leonard. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, the second and third chapters based on the worldwide bestselling “Fifty Shades” phenomenon. Expanding upon the events set in motion in Fifty Shades of Grey, the films will again become the motion-picture events for Valentine’s Day 2017 and 2018. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, alongside E L James, the creator of the series, also return to produce.

I honestly don't care who directs these films because it'll be bad anyway. A film requires a lot of things working together for it to work and be put onto the screen and while I do like the choice of director, the writer is what makes my skin crawl. You have the husband of the author of the books which I have heard are horribly written and she'll probably end up writing the film instead of him and that'll make the film worse. E.L. James literally needs to admit that she's a terrible writer instead of trying to convince herself she can tell a good story when all this series is fan fiction about Twilight. I hated the first film and I'm guaranteeing that I'll hate this film and the next one after it.

As Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios fill out the cast for Kong: Skull Island, The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Fantastic Four‘s Dr. Doom, actor Toby Kebbell, will be joining fellow Marvel stars Tom Hiddleston (Thor), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) and John C. Reilly (Guardians of the Galaxy) in the blockbuster. Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins), Brie Larson (Trainwreck) and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) are also set to co-star. Set for release on March 10, 2017, Kong: Skull Island aims to fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. Previously, Simmons revealed a surprise setting for the film, saying it would take place in Detroit in 1971; however, given the title of the movie, it’s a safe bet that the jungles of King Kong’s homeland will be the primary setting. The Kings of Summer‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the film from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures. Although Kebbell has come off fairly unscathed after the debacle that was Fantastic Four, he still has the epics Ben-Hur (playing Messala), Warcraft (playing Durotan) and A Monster Calls opposite Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones in the can to help audiences forget FF ever happened.

This is great casting. Tobey Kebbell is a star in the making and despite Fantastic Four's performance critically and financially, I did think Toby Kebbell did do the best he could with what he was given. He was spectacualr as Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and he proved he could act against the best in the business. With him being in this movie, I feel that he might take over the role that his Dawn of the Planet of the Apes co-star Andy Serkis has in Peter Jackson's King Kong as the monster himself in a motion capture role.  He would be a great choice if that happens and also ironic and he may get some tips from Andy Serkis himself.

It was revealed back in April that Lionsgate has plans to develop a new big screen The Odyssey movie, based on Homer’s ancient poem. Francis Lawrence, who directed the second, third and fourth films in The Hunger Games franchise is set to helm with Mockingjay scribe Peter Craig writing and Nina Jacobson, responsible for the entire Hunger Games franchise, producing. Now, Variety reveals that The Odyssey movie is negotiating with The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman to play the part of Odysseus. Believed to have been written near the end of the 8th century BC, The Odyssey is a sequel of sorts to Homer’s The Iliad. It follows the adventures of the warrior Odysseus and the fantastic trials and tribulations he encounters on his decade-long journey home to Greece after the fall of Troy. Among the obstacles he encounters in his journey are the Cyclops Polyphemus, the six-headed Scylla, the whirlpool sea monster Charybdis and the birdlike sirens. The Odyssey has been adapted several times for the big screen in various iterations, ranging from the straightforward 1954 adaptation Ulysses, starring Kirk Douglas in the lead, to Joel and Ethan Coen’s 2000 hit, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, starring George Clooney in a musical 1930s adaptation set in the deep south. Jackman starred earlier this year in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie and can next be seen playing the villainous pirate Blackbeard in Pan, director Joe Wright’s “origin story” of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. He’s also slated to reprise his role as Marvel Comics’ Wolverine in a still-untitled film from director James Mangold. Set for release March 3, 2017, it has been made clear that the film will be Jackman’s final performance as the character. Production on The Odyssey movie is planned to begin in early 2016 with Erik Feig, Jim Miller and James Myers overseeing for Lionsgate.

I really like this choice. Hugh Jackman is a terrific actor and putting him any film is a smart choice. I think he fits the role of Odysseus perfectly especially if you've ever read the description of the character. I'm glad that we are getting a true adaptation of The Odyssey and while I have enjoyed the different incarnations and takes on the story (i.e. O Brother Where Art Thou?) but it just doesn't compare to the true source material. Having read The Odyssey gets me excited to see the big action set pieces on the big screen with modern effects and I'm looking forward to the film.
