My Review of Grandma

So I recently watched Grandma and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado........

Grandma, the movie, theatrical release poster

Elle (played by Lily Tomlin) has just gotten through breaking up with her girlfriend when Elle's granddaughter Sage (played by Julia Garner) unexpectedly shows up needing $600 bucks before sundown. Temporarily broke, Grandma Elle and Sage spend the day trying to get their hands on the cash as their unannounced visits to old friends and flames end up rattling skeletons and digging up secrets.

This was a really fun and enjoyable film. Director Paul Weitz (who along with his brother directed such films as Antz, American Pie and About a Boy) and this time he is able to step out on his own and make a masterful film mixing the two most polar opposite genres in drama and comedy. The story has a lot of really solid comedic moments that will make your stomach hurt as well as a few serious moments that will really tug at your heart-stings. In some ways it feels like a newer version of Thelma & Louise but without the bank-robbing and semi love interest between the two characters. Lily Tomlin gives a magnificent performance where she steps outside of we are use to seeing form her and the performance is easily the best one of her career and it is well deserving of an Oscar nomination and possibly an Oscar win. Julia Garner also had a tremendous performance and she showed she does have a lot of upside moving forward. The film does sometimes get too serious in funny moments and sometimes gets too funny in serious moments. Overall this is a really great film to come out at the end of the summer season and I definitely think all mother's and daughters should see this film. I give Grandma a 9 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Grandma, what would you rate it and what did your think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
