Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Officially announced by Lucasfilm last month, The LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are gearing up to direct a still-untitled Star Wars Anthology film that will follow Han Solo. Today, EW has some interesting details regarding the film’s potential tone and who the filmmakers are looking at as far as the Han Solo casting. “We don’t want to spend time going back and answering a lot of questions that, quite frankly, I don’t think people want answered,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “…I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love…You can imagine, given who we’ve chosen to come in and direct, it should be very entertaining and funny. Han Solo is the character inside Star Wars that everybody knows has a wit and sense of humor. So that’s what this should be.” The screenplay for the Han Solo movie is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and will focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley. Technically, the new film marks the second Han Solo casting from Lord and Miller. Voice actor Keith Ferguson played the part in their The LEGO Movie. Now, though, the search is on for a new star to take over the role made famous by Harrison Ford. According to Kennedy, the new Han Solo casting will aim for an actor about 15 years younger than Ford was during Star Wars. “He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s,” she says. “We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.” Lawrence Kasdan, the writer and director known for Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, and Grand Canyon, is familiar to “Star Wars” fans for having co-written the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His son Jon Kasdan wrote and directed The First Time, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and In the Land of Women, as well as writing for the television series “Freaks and Geeks” and “Dawson’s Creek.” Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the Han Solo movie will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra.
This is pretty interesting news to hear eventhough the film is 2 1/2 years away from being released. This was the age that I thought the film would shoot for especially because of the stories they can tell about a young Han Solo such as winning the Falcon in a card game with Lando or how he made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs or how he came to become friends with Chewbacca. I personally would go for someone like Dylan O'Brien or Taron Egerton simply because while they have done some films, they aren't really major stars and that's the type of people that are cast in Star Wars films. Honestly I'm just excited for this film and I'm looking forward to seeing what Lord and Miller come up with for this beloved character.
Lionsgate (via Fandango) has revealed the exciting new trailer for Prisoners and Enemy director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming action-thriller Sicario. Get caught in the crossfire by watching the Sicario trailer below. Set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival this month, Sicario is scripted by Taylor Sheridan and follows FBI agent Kate (Emily Blunt, Into the Woods, Edge of Tomorrow) and her conflicting journey that descends into the intrigue, corruption and moral mayhem of the borderland drug wars. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, Kate is exposed to the brutal world of international drug trafficking by members of a government task force who have enlisted her in their plan to take out a Mexican cartel boss. The cast also includes Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, Guardians of the Galaxy), Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Inherent Vice), along with Jon Bernthal (“The Walking Dead,” Fury), and Emmy Award nominee Victor Garber (“Alias,” “The Flash”). Producers on Sicario include Basil Iwanyk, Edward L. McDonnell, Molly Smith and Thad and Trent Luckinbill. Sicario hits theaters in a limited release September 18 with plans to expand the following week, opening nationwide September 25.
This was an awesome trailer. Now while I have liked the previous trailers more, this one was still a great thing to watch. This movie is so interesting on many different levels. and the people involved with the film just make that much more interesting. I love this cast and the director and I think this movie will shock a lot of people and it has a lot of Oscar potential and i know that it's early to talk like that, but you have to keep the conversation going somehow.
Universal Pictures has revealed the Ride Along 2 trailer, which you can watch below. Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the returning lineup of Ride Along 2, the sequel to the blockbuster action-comedy that gave us the 2014’s most popular comedy duo. The film earned $153.9 million worldwide last year on a budget of just $25 million. Joining Hart and Cube for the next chapter of the series are director Tim Story, as well as Cube’s fellow producers—Will Packer, Matt Alvarez and Larry Brezner—who will produce alongside Cube. Also set to star in Ride Along 2 are Ken Jeong (“Community,” The Hangover Trilogy), Benjamin Bratt (Despicable Me 2, “Law & Order”), Olivia Munn (“The Newsroom,” X-Men: Apocalypse), Bruce McGill (Collateral, “Rizzoli & Isles”), Tika Sumpter (Ride Along, Salt) and Sherri Shepherd (“The View,” Precious). Scripted by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi and based on characters created by Greg Coolidge, Ride Along 2 is executive produced by Nicolas Stern, Ron Muhammad, Scott Bernstein, Chris Bender and JC Spink. Ride Along 2 hits theaters on January 15, 2016.
This was actually a pretty funny trailer. Now it's no secret that I didn't like the first film, but I did think the trailers for it were absolutely hilarious. Now I will say that I did laugh quite a bit, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I mean for all I know history could be repeating itself. I don't have any faith in the movie mainly because I didn't like the first film and it comes out in one of the worst months of the year for movies, but who knows what could happen with the film.
Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw are set to join Ed Helms and Owen Wilson in the feature comedy Bastards, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Bastards is the directorial debut of veteran cinematographer Larry Sher (“The Hangover” films). Principal photography is set to start in Atlanta and Miami this September. The film will be released by Warner Bros. via Alcon’s output deal. Simmons and Bradshaw, who plays himself, join the cast as potential father figures to Wilson and Helms’ characters. The film focuses on the two brothers whose eccentric mother raised them to believe their father had died when they were young. When they discover this to be a lie, they set out to find their real father, learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know. Johnson and Kosove state: “We are thrilled that Terry Bradshaw and J.K. Simmons are joining the cast. As two of the potential fathers in the film, they both add a perfect comedic touch to an already hilarious script.” Alcon is financing Bastards and producing with Montecito Picture Company, whose Ivan Reitman, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell will produce along with Johnson and Kosove. Chris Fenton and Chris Coles are executive producing. Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2) wrote the screenplay.
This is actually pretty great casting. I say that it is great casting only because of J.K. Simmons and not for Terry Bradshaw. J.K. Simmons is an Academy Award winning actor and one of the best in the business so putting him in anything is a fantastic choice and Terry Bradshaw is just Terry Bradshaw who hasn't really been that good in any of his film roles. I think this film could be really great and I just hope Terry Bradshaw at least tries to be funny in the film or just have a really small scene or two in the film.
Almost exactly nine years ago, HBO’s cult western series “Deadwood” breathed its last breath of airtime after the cable network cancelled it after a mere three 12-episode seasons, but this is the age of TV revivals and both Entertainment Weekly and actor Garret Dillahunt have confirmed that a return trip to 1870s South Dakota is in the cards. EW talked to an HBO spokeswoman who indeed confirmed that “preliminary talks” were taking place between the cast and creator David Milch to do a TV movie to hopefully wrap up all the loose ends. This corresponds with Milch’s original plan to make two movies and create a proper ending for the rivalry between Sheriff Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and foul-mouthed pimp Al Swearengen (Ian McShane). As it happens, McShane just signed on for the sixth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” which puts him comfortably back under the umbrella of the network, while Olyphant ended a five-year run on FX’s “Justified” in April. Other cast members who may return include Molly Parker, Jim Beaver, W. Earl Brown, Dayton Callie, Kim Dickens, Dora DuFran, Brad Dourif, Anna Gunn, John Hawkes and Jeffrey Jones.
This is interesting news to hear. Now let me be the first to say that I have never watched an episode of the show before so I honestly know nothing about it other than they use profanity like a second language. This will be a great accomplishment if they can pull it off. Right now HBO has had two series (Sex and the City and Entourage) to get 3 films and so far they are 1 for 3 on those films so this one would need to be a massive hit. The only way that can happen is if they target more people who didn't watch the show than people who did watch the show because it is pretty much a guarantee that the built in audience will go see the film, but that is only a small number and they need a bigger audience for the film to be moderately successful.
