Weekend Movie News 8-28-15 to 8-30-15

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

While we thought we might be able to get through the summer without losing another filmmaking great, it’s being reported that one of horror’s finest filmmakers and the man responsible for some of the biggest horror hits of all time, Mr. Wes Craven, is dead at the age of 76. Not a lot has been reported about Craven’s passing, but we’ll update this as we learn more. Craven, of course, is best known for the hit horror franchise that began with 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, which introduced Freddy Krueger to the world (as well as a 21-year-old Johnny Depp), but the filmmaker had already been making edgy horror films for over a decade before that, most notably 1972’s The Last House on the Left and The Hills Have Eyes in 1977. A Nightmare on Elm Street was a huge breakout, leading to multiple sequels, but Craven was only also involved with A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, which he wrote and produced. In 1994, he’d return to that world in a more meta way with Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, but two years later, he decided to spoof the slasher subgenre of horror he helped create with 1994’s Scream, which would kick off an even more successful horror franchise with two huge sequels in 1997 and 2000. While Craven directed a number of movies in the past ten years, including the aptly-titled Cursed and the hit thriller Red Eye, he became more focused on producing remakes of his earlier films The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House on the Left.  In recent years, Craven has been involved with bringing Scream to television with the hit MTV show, but 2011’s Scream 4 would be his last feature film as director. Craven’s most recent production, The Girl in the Photographs, starring Kal Penn, will premiere as part of “Midnight Madness” at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. It’s a sad day for horror fans who know Craven for all of the films he wrote, directed and produced.

This is really sad news to hear. Wes Craven is a horror icon and I personally think he is bigger than the monsters and villains he created in Freddy Kruger and Ghostface. He also did The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House on the Left, I mean this guy was horror genius. He hasn't done a lot recently other than working on the new Scream tv series (which is ok) and a couple of other tv shows, but he is irreplaceable and no one will ever come close to his mastery ever again. R.I.P. Wes Craven.

Although “Hannibal” has just one episode left, leading man Mads Mikkelsen’s future is looking awfully bright. Not only will he star in Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Star Wars entry, Rogue One, but Variety is now reporting that Mads Mikkelsen is also in talks to play a mystery villain role in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange! Whoever he’s playing, Mads Mikkelsen won’t be the only villain in the Scott Derrickson film. It was revealed back in June that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing the good doctor’s arch foe, Baron Mordo. Despite Mordo’s villainous role in the comics, it was said when Eijofor’s casting was announced that the cinematic version will serve as an amalgamation of several characters in the Strange canon. It’s likely that we’ll first see Mordo an ally. This isn’t the first time that Marvel has looked to Mads Mikkelsen to play a comic book villain. Back in 2012, Mikkelsen was up for the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World. The part ultimate went to “Doctor Who” star Christopher Eccleston. Scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016, Doctor Strange is scripted by Jon Spaihts and directed by Scott Derrickson. It is said to follow the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. Also attached to star in Doctor Strange is Tilda Swinton, who will be playing the Ancient One. Rachel McAdams has also been rumored for an as of yet unconfirmed role.

If true, then this is terrific casting. Mads Mikkelsen is one of the most underrated actors in business and every film he is in is just brilliant. My favorite film of his is The Hunt which in my opinion should've won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, but I digress. I think he is a really great fit for this type of comic book film and he could very well become an iconic villain. Getting a part in an MCU film shows that people respect his body of work and hopefully after the film, more of the general public will know him better as well.

Cameras are just about ready to roll on the new, currently-untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Now BuzzFeed has talked to the actor about what we can expect in terms of plot and location in Bourne 5, which he is co-writing with Greengrass and Christopher Rouse. “Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.” As for what far-off locales the story will see this post-Snowden Bourne whisked off to, Damon will be returning to a city very familiar to Ocean’s Eleven fans. “We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy,” he said. “And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of….” [trails off laughing] Little is known about the plot of the new film, although it has been confirmed that it will not feature a crossover between Damon’s Bourne and Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross. Julia Stiles will be reprising her franchise role of ex-CIA agent Nicky Parsons, however, with Ex Machina‘s Alicia Vikander in the female lead and Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones as a high-ranking CIA officer. Frank Marshall will again produce the new film alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment. Greengrass, Damon and Greg Goodman also produce. Production should begin shortly on Bourne 5 as the film is slated to hit the big screen July 29, 2016.

This is really interesting stuff to read. I really like how the franchise is going to use a few things that have gone on in real-life to sort of help influence the films plot as it will help bring a real-world perspective to it. It also makes sense to not have Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross to be in the same film just yet, but I do believe that either in Bourne 6 or 7 they will meet and it should be a fun film. I'm glad that Damon and Greengrass are back together working on the new film and I think it has the chance to be really great.

A new Goosebumps international trailer has been released today and you can check it out in the player below, thanks to Sony Pictures India (via /Film)! This one features even more Goosebumps monster mayhem from the October release. Directed by Rob Letterman, the big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine‘s classic YA books stars Jack Black, Amy Ryan, Ken Marino, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Jillian Bell and Ryan Lee.  Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling “Goosebumps” series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong. “All the early monsters that are in the books [are in the film],” the real life R.L. Stine told ComingSoon.net in an exclusive interview last month. “They all come out, they’re all there. The real evil one is Slappy the Dummy, he’s there, the Abominable Snowman from Pasadena is there, and lawn gnomes, HUNDREDS of lawn gnomes. They’re great, they’re really good.”

This was actually a really great trailer. I liked it better than the first one and this one even made me laugh a little in the process as well. From the moment this film was announced I was a little concerned about how they would make a movie on a collection of books, but I seemed to have an answer. I think the film looks really good and Jack Black looks like he will pull this role off and I cannot wait to check out the film.

Lionsgate has announced today they’re developing a big screen version of the fan-favorite video game series Borderlands. Father-son duo Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Iron Man) and Ari Arad will produce the Borderlands movie. “We believe that we’ve brought together the right partners, the ideal creative team and the perfect property to launch a new motion picture tent-pole for a global audience,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. “Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows. The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.” “Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises,” publisher Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said. “This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.” “We’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Jon Feltheimer, Michael Burns, Rob, Patrick and the amazing team at Lionsgate and join forces with Take-Two and Gearbox on this incredible property,” said Avi and Ari Arad. “‘Borderlands’ has a unique story-driven narrative energy and rich multidimensional characters that position it to become a singular motion picture event.” “Creating, developing and continuing to build the ‘Borderlands’ franchise at Gearbox Software has been an incredible ride where the most powerful fuel to our engine has been the astonishing outpouring of love and devotion from the fans,” said Randy Pitchford , President and Co-Founder of Gearbox Software. “It is the passion of the fans driving the growing success of Borderlands that brought what I believe to be the best team of film producers, marketing and distribution experts in the world together to deliver the exciting story and unique characters of Borderlands to the big screen.”

Developed by Gearbox Software, the first action-RPG in the series was released in 2009 with a follow-up released in 2012 and a “pre-sequel” in 2014. The first game is officially described as follows: “In a distant future, the planets at the outer edges of the galaxy have become a beacon to fortune seekers and those yearning for a better life off world. But there are no guarantees in deep space. Pandora, one of these distant planets, was reported to be rich in untapped mineral wealth, and so drew many hoping to get rich quick, but in the end little was found beyond the scattered ruins of a past alien civilization. With nothing to gain, any who could soon abandoned Pandora, leaving those who remained to deal with the lawlessness of a world gone bust, and the mystery of the long-dead alien civilization. But as chaotic as these times were, there were worse days yet to come. After several years the planet’s huge orbit slowly brought it near to its sun and once unknown and horrifying creatures sprang from their long hibernation to terrify the stranded colonists. The only hope of the colonists seems to be a vault discovered in the side of a mountainside, rumored to contain alien technology and secrets about Pandora.” The deal was orchestrated by a Lionsgate team led by President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin, Summit Entertainment President of Production Geoff Shaevitz and Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President of Business & Legal Affairs Patricia Laucella .

This is a fantastic idea. Now I haven't played any of the games that much, but what little I did play them I did enjoy it a lot. I think this film will work simply because of the success of Mad Max: Fury Road. I say that becasue this is set in somewhat of the same type area which is a barren wasteland made up mostly of desert with a lot of action. This has the chance to be a really good film, but it depends on who they get to direct and star in the film.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

                                                                                                                                        Jonah Sparks

My Review of We Are Your Friends

So I recently watched We Are Your Friends and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

We Are Your Friends.jpg

Cole (played by Zac Efron), a struggling 23-year-old DJ in the electronic dance music scene, dreams of becoming a major record producer. When an older DJ, James (played by Wes Bentley), becomes his mentor, Cole connects with James' girlfriend, Sophie (played by Emily Ratajkowski). Cole's relationship with Sophie blossoms and breaks the bond with his mentor, which forces Cole into difficult decisions about his future.

This an absolutely dreadful and awful film. Zac Efron is an amazing actor and he has really proven himself in dramatic roles (Me and Orson Welles) and his comedic roles (Neighbors), but he just absolutely dreadful in the film and this easily one of his worst performances of his entire career. The plot is just absolutely terrible and there is nothing to like about the film from the story to the performances or the characters themselves. If you are a fan of electronic music then you may like this movie, but you would be a very small minority. The director of the film is Max Joseph who is also on the hit tv show Catfish and while that's great and everything, he just doesn't transition well to the big screen and he pretty much makes an MTV music video (that's something that most of you have no idea what those are). Overall this is an absolutely terrible film and it is one of the worst movies of the year. I give We Are Your Friends a 0 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of We Are Your Friends, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

My Review of No Escape

So I recently watched No Escape and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.....

No Escape (2015 film) poster.jpg

American businessman Jack Dwyer (played by Owen Wilson) and his family settle into their new home in Southeast Asia. Suddenly finding themselves in the middle of a violent political uprising, they must frantically look for a safe escape as rebels mercilessly attack the city.

This is a really bad movie. From the trailers you get a vibe that a bunch of stuff is going to go down and that this may have been a true story and it actually isn't and not much stuff goes down. It's a pretty dopey and stupid plot that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. One thing we haven't seen recently is Owen Wilson doing action movies and the last one he did was Starsky & Hutch back in 2004 and he's actually really good in these types of movies. He has really great chemistry with co-star Lake Bell and even the performances of the children were decent. The one thing that was an exciting prospect for the movie was Pierce Brosnan in a possible nice supporting role with a lot of screen time and he ends being on screen for a very short time. Some of the action scenes are pretty spectacular, but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table as an action thriller film. Overall this a film that could've been really good film, but it's lack of originality and mediocre story drops the films quality. I give No Escape a 2 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of No Escape, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

My Top 10 Favorite Action Thrillers of All-Time

An action thriller film is a mix between the genres of action and thrillers and they often feature guns, cool explosions, and amazing set pieces. With that being said I;'m going to bring you my top 10 favorite action thrillers of all-time. So without further ado...

10. Kill Bill: Volume  1
Kill bill vol one ver.jpg

This is one of the most violent films that I have ever seen, but I still enjoy watching it a lot. An entire wedding party is slaughtered during a dress rehearsal in a rural chapel: the pregnant woman in the blood-splattered wedding dress is Black Mamba, better known as The Bride (played by Uma Thurman). The assassin, Bill (played by David Carradine), and his circle known as The Vipers left The Bride for dead, but unluckily for them she was merely comatose. Four years later, The Bride suddenly awakens from her coma and realizes what has been done to her. She sets off on a ferociously focused mission, setting out to seek revenge on her former master and his deadly squad of assassins. One by one, she kills the various members of the assassin group. She saves Bill for last. Kill Bill: Volume 1 has a rating of 85% on rottentomatoes.com.

9. The Warriors
TheWarriors 1979 Movie Poster.jpg

This is a fantastic film and it vastly underrated. As the tale opens, the titular Coney Island has traveled to the Bronx to attend a city-wide meeting of all gangs; at that event, however, the psychotic leader of a rival gang, The Rogues assassinates the head of the city's foremost gang, but The Warriors are pegged as culpable. This sends the gang fleeing through the labyrinthine city. With every thug in Manhattan in vicious, homicidal pursuit, they must also overcome all obstacles in their way. The Warriors has a rating of 94% on rottentomatoes.com.

8. Starship Toopers
Starship Troopers - movie poster.jpg

This an absolutely ridiculous film and one film that I got in trouble for for watching it at a very young age. The story follows a young soldier named Johnny Rico (played by Casper Van Dien) and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military unit. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to NCO and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an insectoid species known as "Arachnids". Starship Troopers was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and it has a rating of 63% on rottentomatoes.com.

7. Speed
Speed movie poster.jpg

This film will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time and it has some nice comedic elements as well. Jack Traven (played by Keanu Reeves) is an LA Bomb Squad specialist whose principal antagonist is elusive bomber-extortionist Dennis Hopper. Seeking vengeance after his latest ransom scheme is thwarted, Hopper presents a personal challenge to Reeves: A wired-for-destruction city bus, which will detonate if the speedometer drops below 50 MPH. Speed was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing while winning 2 (Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing) and it has a rating of 93% on rottentomatoes.com.

6. True Lies
True lies poster.jpg

This is a fun and amazing film that I can enjoy over and over every time I watch it. By day Harry Tasker (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a mild-mannered computer salesman with a wife and teenage daughter. But at other times, he is a high-ranking spy living on the edge. His wife hasn't a clue that he and his partner Gib (played by Tom Arnold) are constantly in danger. After Tasker begins to suspect her of infidelity, he uses every trick in the book to verify his suspicions. Everything blows apart when Helen (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), his wife finally learns the truth about her heretofore dull husband. True Lies has a rating of 72% on rottentomatoes.com.

5. First Blood
First blood poster.jpg

This is an amazing film and it is also a really great character study and a look at how Vietnam veterans were treated after the war. A former Green Beret must use all of the guerrilla tactics he learned in Vietnam to save himself after he is falsely accused of a crime while visiting the lush and wild Pacific Northwest in this heart-pounding actioner. First Blood has a rating of 87% on rottentomatoes.com.

4. Lethal Weapon
Lethal weapon1.jpg

This movie is absolutely hilarious and it started the buddy cop genre. L.A. cop Martin Riggs (played by Mel Gibson), whose wife has recently died, is a loose cannon with a seeming death wish. This makes him indispensable in collaring dangerous criminals, but a liability to any potential partners. Roger Murtaugh (played by Danny Glover), a conservative family man who wants to stay alive for his upcoming 50th birthday, is partnered with Riggs. As Riggs gets to know Murtaugh and his family, he begins to mellow, though his insistence on using guerilla tactics to catch criminals is still (put mildly) above and beyond the call of duty. The main villain is The General (played by Mitchell Ryan), a drug dealer responsible for the death of the daughter of one of Murtaugh's oldest friends. The General is also in charge of a deadly, militia-like gang of smugglers. Lethal Weapon has a rating of 84% on rottentomatoes.com.

3. Point Break
Pointbreaktheatrical.jpg

I absolutely love this film and and I think it is vastly underrated. FBI agent Johnny Utah (played by Keanu Reeves) as he goes undercover to infiltrate a cache of Southern California surfers suspected of robbing banks. Utah, a former football player, is assigned to Los Angeles. There, four bank robbers, who wear rubber masks and call themselves "Ex-Presidents," have executed a series of successful robberies which embarrassingly have the FBI stumped. Utah, and his partner Pappas (played by Gary Busey) suspect that the robbers are surfers and hatch a plan for catching them. Point Break has a rating of 68% on rottentomatoes.com.

2. The Fugitive
A black poster. Above in bold white letters are the lines: "A murdered wife." "A one-armed man." "An obsessed detective." "The chase begins." In the middle is a picture of an older male with brown hair wearing a white t-shirt, black zippered jacket, black coat, and white pants; running parallel to a train on a subway platform. Below in large white typeface is the line: "Harrison Ford". Below that in smaller white typeface reads the line: "is" with a larger white typeface next to it reading: "The Fugitive". The film credits appear underneath it in a small grey typface, along with a line that reads: "August 6" in a larger white typeface.

The film is full of suspense from beginning to end and it has some amazing performances. Dr. Richard Kimble (played by Harrison Ford, is convicted of murdering his wife. While being transferred to prison by bus, Kimble is involved in a bus-train collision. Surviving the disaster, Kimble escapes, vowing to track down the elusive professional criminal whom he holds responsible for the murder. Dogging the fugitive every foot of the way is U.S. marshal Sam Gerard (played by Tommy Lee Jones), who announces his intention to search "every whorehouse, doghouse, and outhouse" to bring Kimble to justice. The Fugitive was nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound and Best Sound Editing while winning the award for Best Supporting Actor and it has a rating of 96% on rottentomatoes.com.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road
Theatrical release poster

This is just a complete non-stop action film filled with amazing special effects and terrific performances. In a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, two rebels just might be able to restore order: Max (played by Tom Hardy), a man of action and of few words, and Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron), a woman of action who is looking to make it back to her childhood homeland. Mad Max: Fury Road has a rating of 98% on rottentomatoes.com.

My Review of She's Funny That Way

So I recently watched She's Funny That Way and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

She's Funny That Way.jpg

The film centers on a call girl/escort-turned-Broadway-thespian Isabella/Izzy/Glow (played by Imogen Poots) and follows the “recurring intersection between these two facets of her life”. A Broadway director Arnold alias Derek (played by Owen Wilson) pays for her (and did for others) escort services despite being married to the star Delta Simmons (played by Kathryn Hahn) of his new play A Grecian Evening. The playwrighter Josh (played by Will Forte) falls for her as well, despite the fact that he’s already dating her therapist Jane Claremont (played by Jennifer Aniston), whose alcoholic mother and psychotherapist (played by Joanna Lumley) is in rehab in Tuscany for six months, leaving all her patients to her daughter. Actor Seth Gilbert (played by Rhys Ifans) the counterpart to Delta Simmons in the play is in love with her for years.

This was a pretty decent film to watch. The film has one of the best ensemble casts I've seen in a film and the characters each have their own moments to shine and standout throughout the film. Out of this ensemble I would say the one standout is Imogene Poots who is very underrated and she's proves she can really act and has a bright future ahead of her. The films plot relies on a lot of callbacks to other comedies and that is great in one aspect because the film knows what it is and it's bad because it doesn't come up with anything new or original. The film does have a lot of great laugh, but there are a few clunkers in there as well. The plot of the film is really messy and at times I didn't know what was going on and it made it hard to follow. Overall this is nice film some pretty great performances, the film overall is just a complete mess.  I give She's Funny That Way a 4 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of She's Funny That Way, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.

8-25-15/8-26-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

(8/25/15)

After the double whammy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers revealed last week, Empire is back with some new details on the villains in the upcoming film which feature an interesting inspiration. Speaking about “The First Order,” director J.J. Abrams had this to say: “That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’ What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?” It was previously revealed that Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren is a member of a group titled “The Knights of Ren,” and Abrams also confirmed that this means he’s also not a member of the Sith. “Kylo Ren is not a Sith,” Abrams said. “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” Andy Serkis is doing the motion capture and voice for Snoke. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi. Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.

This is really interesting news. First off it's a pretty great idea to sort of come up with for The First Order being based off Nazi's since that's what George Lucas used to base the Empire off of in the original trilogy. It's also interesting knowing that Kylo Ren isn't a sith because it builds on the speculation that it could possibly be Han and Leia's son, but he's not all the way bad but there is still bad in him. I also think that Andy Serkis is playing Darth Plaguies in disguise and he will reveal himself in the film towards the ultimate climax.

When Marvel Comics revealed their plans for the “All-New, All-Different Marvel,” a relaunch of their entire universe with brand new #1 issues, one of those included was a new Blade series that would star the Daywalker and his newly-created daughter. The series was originally set to debut this October but has since been delayed due to unforseen circumstances, or so we thought. Bleeding Cool reports that the delay for Blade #1 was something that came from up the food chain at Marvel Entertainment, as the new series is being looked at to potentially be the blueprint for a new Blade film. Wesley Snipes has said as recently as this year’s San Diego Comic-Con that talks have happened about a potential return for him as the character, though nothing official has been reported yet. Snipes starred as the character in three “Blade” movies, the first of which helped shepherd comic books and superheroes to the big screen. Combined, the three films brought in over $400 million at the global box office.

This is really great news to hear especially if it is true. Blade is a very underrated film and it was really successful in the late 90's when people didn't really have a lot of faith in comic book films. To be honest the only way this new film can work is if Wesley Snipes comes back to play Blade. He was just so perfect for the character and it will really help him get back on track now that he is out of prison. Now granted just because Marvel is starting a new series doesn't mean anything, but who knows it could lead to something great.

With Straight Outta Compton number one at the box office, Universal appears eager to continue to work with the film’s young stars. According to a story today at Variety, Jason Mitchell (who played Easy-E) is the second member of the biopic’s cast to plan a trip to Kong: Skull Island. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Corey Hawkins (Compton‘s Dr. Dre) had signed on for the Legendary and Universal 2017 release. Also on board for Kong: Skull Island are Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Tom Hiddleston (Thor, Only Lovers Left Alive), Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Big Game), John C. Reilly (Guardians of the Galaxy, Wreck-It Ralph), Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins, Selma) and Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Trainwreck). Kong: Skull Island aims to fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. Previously, Simmons revealed a surprise setting for the film, saying it would take place in Detroit in 1971; however, given the title of the movie, it’s a safe bet that the jungles of King Kong’s homeland will be the primary setting. Although the specifics of the project are shrouded in mystery, Jason Mitchell’s character is said to be a pilot. The Kings of Summer‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the film from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures March 10, 2017.

This is terrific casting. Jason Mitchell hasn't been in a lot films, but the performance he gave in Straight Outta Compton was just fantastic and it is getting him a lot of Oscar buzz. I think he'll also like working with Corey Hawkins again and so will I because they had really great chemistry together. This cast is just absolutely fantastic and this is a film I am really looking forward to in 2017.

Production recently wrapped on Warner Bros.’ upcoming big screen adaptation of Suicide Squad, so the members of Task Force X will be returning to their regular lives, but for star Margot Robbie that might be an issue when she runs into co-star Jared Leto. “What he’s doing with the character is so cool. At first it was kind of confronting (to be up close) but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused,” Robbie told the New York Daily News. “Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.” Robbie also spoke about what makes Suicide Squad different from other comic book fare, saying: “I guess the one common denominator is we’re all bad guys, it just makes everything more fun that way. The scenes are more interesting I feel, when you just don’t know how the characters are going to react, especially with Harley, who’s absolutely nuts… she’s either going to kill you or laugh and give you a hug.” Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, Focus) as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop, Easy Money) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Divergent, The Water Diviner) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, upcoming Pan) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El DIablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jared Leto as the Joker. There’s also mystery roles for Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack, and Common. Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the Suicide Squad team has included countless DC villains among its ranks, including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bane, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn. The CW’s “Arrow” introduced their own version of the team in the most recent season of the series and the recent animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, offered another version of the team. Suicide Squad will debut in theaters on August 5, 2016.

These are really great comments. I really like seeing that casts have great chemistry and from everything that has been released from set shows that this is a close cast and they looked like they had fun making the film. One of the characters I have been looking forward to the most besides Jared Leto as The Joker is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn simply because we've never seen her on the big screen and Robbie is the perfect choice for the role and the film. The film has gotten amazing buzz and it still has another year before it comes out and I don't know if I can't any longer to see it.

Fox Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the trailer for Youth, the new film from writer/director Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty) starring Academy Award winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules, Kingsmen: The Secret Service) and Academy Award nominee Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, The Grand Budapest Hotel) which you can check it out below. Youth explores the lifelong bond between two friends Fred (Caine) and Mick (Keitel) vacationing in a luxury Swiss Alps lodge as they ponder retirement. While Fred has no plans to resume his musical career despite the urging of his loving daughter Lena (Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz), Mick is intent on finishing the screenplay for what may be his last important film for his muse Brenda (Academy Award winner Jane Fonda). And where will inspiration lead their younger friend Jimmy (Paul Dano), an actor grasping to make sense of his next performance? Set against a sprawling landscape of unforgettable sights and intoxicating music, the movie asks if our most important and life-changing experiences can come at any time – even late – in life. Fox Searchlight will release Youth on December 4.

This was a really great trailer. I have heard a lot about this film and everything I have heard is pretty much true. This is going to be a juggernaut come Oscar season and I could very well see in this film winning three out of the 4 acting awards and possibly best picture. This is a terrific cast and the film has a really nice tone to it and it could provide a few heart-breaking moments as well as some funny ones.
According to Deadline, three-time Academy Award nominee Joaquin Phoenix (The Master, Walk the Line) is set to reunite with filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, The Visit) on a new, untitled film project from producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious). Phoenix previously worked with the director on 2002’s Signs and 2004’s The Village, both solid hits for Shyamalan, while Jason Blum worked with him on the $5 million dollar independent production The Visit, which is earning positive buzz before its debut in theaters on September 11. The new project for the trio will cost, like most Blumhouse productions, in the below $10 million range, while the logline for its story is being kept under tight wraps by the secretive Shyamalan. Marc Bienstock will produce the film alongside Blum, while Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider executive produce. Shyamalan has the hit FOX series “Wayward Pines” currently enjoying high ratings, and was in development on his long-gestating passion project Labor of Love with Bruce Willis headlining as of January 2014. Could this new project be Labor of Love with Phoenix in the lead, or an entirely new project? Either way, the Phoenix-led film will begin shooting in November in the director’s hometown of Philadelphia. While in the last year Phoenix has headlined Woody Allen’s latest Irrational Man and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, both of which scored less than $10 million at the box office. Blum’s company has had an impressive string of low-cost/high-yield horror hits this year, including The Boy Next Door, The Lazarus Effect, Unfriended, Insidious Chapter 3, The Gallows and The Gift, although this past weekend’s Sinister 2 underperformed to expectations. Besides The Visit he has this fall’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and The Green Inferno as well as the girl-oriented musical drama Jem and the Holograms.

I honestly don't know what to think about this. On one hand Joaquin Phoenix is one of the best actors in the business and him in any film is a great idea. On the other hand I don't think working with The Shamhammer is a great idea. I say that because Shyamalan hasn't had a true hit since Unbreakable which was back in 2000 so I just can't trust him with anything. I understand if they want to, I just don't think it is a great idea.
