My Review of Silence

So I recently watched Silence and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...........

Silence (2016 film).png

Two Catholic missionaries (played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (played by Liam Neeson) at a time when Catholicism was outlawed and their presence forbidden.

This film is just absolutely phenomenal. If you've ever wanted to see a performance driven film then this is the film you need to see. All of the actors in this film are spectacular and Liam Neeson, Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield just give the best performances of their careers. This has been a passion project for Martin Scorsese and it's a joy to see him direct something he's been wanting to do for a long time. If you've ever questioned anything about religion whether you believe in it or not, will make rethink everything you've ever thought about it. Besides Hacksaw Ridge, this might be one of the most powerful films of the year and it will make you feel just about every type of emotion possible and it is so beautifully filmed thanks to Rodrigo Prieto who is a phenomenal cinematographer and the way he captures Japan both in he landscape and culture is unlike anything we've ever seen before. Scorsese films tend to have a slow pace to them and tend to be almost three hours (or more) and you can definitely feel those three hours in this film and there are just some moments that drag on for too long and it can be very tiring. Now while there are some slow parts, there are a few nice action scenes which is more that we are used to seeing from Scorsese and they bring a nice change of pace to the film, but they are to few and far between to for them to have any impact. Overall this is a fascinating film to explores religion in a whole new way and led by stellar performances from Garfield, Driver and Neeson, but getting to the end of the film while beautiful, can get boring and tiring. I give Silence a 9 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Silence, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
