So I recently watched Hidden Figures and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Three brilliant African-American women at NASA -- Katherine Johnson (played by Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (played by Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (played by Janelle Monáe) -- serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (played by Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.
This is a very neat and interesting film. When it comes to true stories, most of them are very well know to a group of people or to the majority of the world and this is a story that quite frankly isn't very well know and the filmmakers were able to pull it off very well. As with any film, this one couldn't have been done without the stellar performances from the three leads and all three ladies (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe) all give outstanding performances and if all three ladies were able to get nominated for Oscars then they would, but it only looks like Henson and Spencer will be the ones getting nominations. Much like Moonlight, this film is important for a lot of different reasons and it's able to show how to overcome the obstacles that are put in front of you and this story took place at a time when racial tensions were at their highest and the fact that these ladies were apart of one of the greatest achievements is just absolutely remarkable. Outside of the main trio's performances, the rest of the cast is pretty weak eventhough Kevin Costner does have some bright spots, but that is about it when it comes to the supporting cast members. Overall this is an all-inspiring film that is coming out at the most perfect time for our nation and it also bodes some very terrific performances that are sure to get Oscar nominations. I give Hidden Figures a 9 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Hidden Figures, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
