My Review of Patriots Day

So I recently watched Patriots Day and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Tragedy strikes on April 15, 2013, when two bombs explode during the Boston Marathon. In the aftermath of the attack, police Sgt. Tommy Saunders (played by Mark Wahlberg), FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (played by Kevin Bacon) and Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) join courageous survivors, first responders and other investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the suspects and bring them to justice.

This is a very powerful and emotional film. The Boston Marathon bombings were one of the worst American tragedies we have ever seen and the events afterwards had you sitting on the edge of your seat as the hunt for these two commenced. Doing this film soon after the events is a pretty ballsy thing to do, but if one person were able to do so it would be Peter Berg. Berg has had a phenomenal year so far with both Deepwater Horizon and now this and honestly if it weren't such a crowded year for directors, Berg would easily be nominated for an Oscar. Along with Berg, Mark Wahlberg also had a standout year alongside Berg twice and this might honestly be his best performance to date. The supporting cast is very strong as well with spectacular performances from the likes of Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, John Goodman and Michelle Monaghan. Now one thing this film did that was really great was that there are two other films in development based on this subject and for this film to get out first is really great and it will help this film standout and be compared to instead of comparing it to another film. The film does take a few liberties with the story itself and it even strays away from the heart of the matter and it tends to be more of a thriller, but it does a great job of honoring the victims of that day and it really makes the film special in how classy it is when handling the more emotional moments. Overall this is a very powerful film that is a nice tribute to the city of Boston and how strong they are being able to survive this and be stronger than ever before and with some stellar performances to boast, this is one of the best films of the year. I give Patriots Day a 9 out of 10.
