My Review of The Jungle Book (2016)

So I recently watched The Jungle Book (2016) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Official artwork poster of the film

Raised by a family of wolves since birth, Mowgli (played by Neel Sethi) must leave the only home he's ever known when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voiced by Idris Elba) unleashes his mighty roar. Guided by a no-nonsense panther (voiced by Ben Kingsley) and a free-spirited bear (voiced by Bill Murray), the young boy meets an array of jungle animals, including a slithery python (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) and a smooth-talking ape (voiced by Christopher Walken). Along the way, Mowgli learns valuable life lessons as his epic journey of self-discovery leads to fun and adventure.

This was a really fun film to watch. Gonna go ahead and just state that the film is a basic remake of the 1967 film and therefore there' almost no originality to the film for that simple reason, but there are a few nice moments that made this film different than the other film. However the one thing that makes this film stand out and it's the absolutely breathtaking visuals. The fact that this film was made entirely in a studio out in Hollywood (yes you read that right, it was all in one location and everything was done on green screen other than Neel Sethi's performance. Going that route makes this one of the most remarkable films in the expansion of technology in film and it's a credit to director Jon Favreau who does an outstanding job of overusing the CGI to a point where the film becomes unwatchable. The voice cast is amazing and all of the actors are perfect for each of their roles, especially Bill Murray as Baloo which fits him well and it'll be exciting to see how his character will grow in the next film. As mentioned before the story is a complete repeat of the first film and going back on the CGI, there were times where you could tell it was CGI and it took some time getting used to, but other than that the effects were spot on. Overall this is film is a cinematic achievement and look for it to garner a lot of Oscar buzz on the technical side and it is the frontrunner for Best Visual Effects. I give The Jungle Book (2016) a 9 out of 10.
