So I recently watched Demolition and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado....
Grieving investment banker Davis Mitchell (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) returns to work after losing his beloved wife in a tragic car accident. After writing a letter to complain about a vending machine, Mitchell receives a phone call from Karen (played by Naomi Watts), a customer service rep from the company. Karen becomes moved by his complete honesty, while Davis finds someone to lend a sympathetic ear. As his new friendship with Karen and her son grows, Mitchell finds the strength he needs to rebuild his life.
This is a film that just flat out doesn't work. Jake Gyllenhaal is a fantastic actor and here recently he has put together a great variety of performances over the years, but this isn't one of them. It's shocking because this could've been a potential Oscar role for him, but his character is just bland and too metaphoric were everything has to have a special meaning to it. The story is just repetitive and it never really got off the ground and there is nothing for you to really grasp on to. There are a lot of cliches and the film gets way too predictable. Chris Cooper is also in the film and i he gives a brilliant performance and he just seems so natural in this role and eh might be the one who could get some possible Oscar attention, Jean-Marc Vallée is a great director, but it just seems like he didn't fully understand the story either and the film just trudges along and it gets to be boring, The pacing of the film is also which adds to boring story and the film only comes out to 100 minutes which just doesn't feel like enough time to really get into the film. Overall this a really boring a very disappointing film. I give Demolition a 1.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Demolition, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
