So I recently watched Barbershop: The Next Cut and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
To survive harsh economic times, Calvin (played by Ice Cube) and Angie (played by Regina Hall) have merged the barbershop and beauty salon into one business. The days of male bonding are gone as Eddie (played by Cedric the Entertainer) and the crew must now contend with sassy female co-workers and spirited clientele. As the battle of the sexes rages on, a different kind of conflict has taken over Chicago. Crime and gangs are on the rise, leaving Calvin worried about the fate of his son. Together, the friends come up with a bold plan to take back their beloved neighborhood.
This is actually a really fun and great film. Now the franchise itself has been pretty decent to this point and this film really finishes off the character development and it's one of the better executions of character development that's been seen in a franchise like this. There are a lot of callbacks to the previous films, but they aren't too overwhelming and they are nice little reminders of what happened in other films. Ice Cube is really phenomenal in this role and his character is just so likable, that you can't help but cheer him on. The jokes in the film are pretty good, but there are a lot of them that felt forced or seemed like they didn't really fit in with the narrative. Speaking of the narrative, the story is actually not that bad and it really tackles a lot of real-world issues and they are presented to not favor one side or the other, but it really just shows what the real problem is in the world. Everyone in the cast fits well together and they all gave performances that really helped move the story along with each having their own moments to shine. Overall this is a fun film with a better story than you would think and the tackling of current events is remarkable. I give Barbershop: The Next Cut an 8.5 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Barbershop: The Next Cut, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
