My Review of Stronger

So I recently watched Stronger and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.........

"Stength defines us" at the top of the poster above a man holding himself along parallel bars.

Jeff Bauman (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) loses both of his legs when two bombs explode during the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. After regaining consciousness in the hospital, Jeff is able to help law enforcement identify one of the suspects, but his own battle is just beginning. With unwavering support from his family and girlfriend (played by Tatiana Maslany), Bauman embarks on a long and heroic journey to physical and emotional rehabilitation.

This is one of the more heart-wrenching films of the year and will leave you with tears in your eyes. Some people are still against 9/11 films eventhough the event happened 16 years ago, but some people are ok with films based off the Boston Marathon Bombings eventhough that happened 4 years ago which doesn't make much sense because each event has a story to tell and this might be the best film adaptation of one of the stories yet. Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the greatest actors of our generation and he never receives a lot of credit, but after this film he deserves a lot more attention. He brings a lot of raw emotion to the screen in every scene and he just provides a different type of performance we are used to seeing from him to bring this mans story to life. It's not your typical bio-pic that you would see that is based off of a man who some call a hero and you really dive deep into his personal life before and after bombings and it's a risk that pays off as you grow to love this man throughout eventhough at times he seems like one of the most ungrateful people in the world. Another great performance comes from Miranda Richardson who plays Bauman's mother and she sort of plays the mother arch-type of the of the parent who is trying to gain something off of their child eventhough what they are doing is hurting their child and in the end they realize it, but in this case the character goes a completely different route and that just throws you for a curve and it is once again a bold risk for the film to take. It's a film that will make you feel several different emotions and sometimes all at once, however there are times were things get a little too emotional and it becomes so unnecessarily over-whelming at some key scenes. Overall this film is one of the more powerful films you'll see this year and it has some of the best performances of the year that deserve a lot of recognition. I give Stronger a 9.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Stronger, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
