My Review of Only the Brave

So I recently watched Only the Brave and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Only the Brave (2017 film).jpg

Through hope, determination, sacrifice and the drive to protect families and communities, the Granite Mountain Hotshots become one of the most elite firefighting teams in the country. While most people run from danger, they run toward it -- watching over lives, homes and everything people hold dear, forging a unique brotherhood that comes into focus with one fateful fire in Yarnell, Ariz.

This might be the most emotional film of the year. When you see survival films like this you often times roll your eyes because some of the situations seem unrealistic, but when you find out it is based on actual true events it makes you take a step back. This film does so many things good that you become emotionally attached from the very beginning and as the film goes on that connection gets stronger and when certain events happen in the film, you can be filled with a lot of different emotions. The performances are out of this world and everyone in the cast really deserves a lot of credit, but if you had to pick standouts, it's defiantly Josh Brolin, Jennifer Connolly and Miles Teller who really carry the weight of the story on their backs. Another thing the film does well is that it uses some great visuals effects and camerawork to make you feel as if you are on the front line with this group. Now going back to the emotion, if you really want a powerful punch, go into the film without any knowledge about the events an you'll feel some emotions you've never felt before, but also see this film because it is a great story about this group of men who put their lives on the line doing a job that a lot of people (including myslef) aren't cut out for. The one big glaring issue in the film is that it feels a little long,by adding in a few scenes that don't make much sense to overall film and those could've been easily taken out without disrupting the flow of the film. Overall this film is a film you need to check out and while films aren't supposed to be history lessons, this film will give you a whole new insight into this world and really make you appreciate firefighters and all they do. I give Only the Brave a 9.5 out of 10.
