My Review of Happy Death Day

So I recently watched Happy Death Day and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Tree Gelbman (played by Jessica Rothe) is a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter (played by Israel Broussard). As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she's experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter's dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.

This is a very predictable, but somewhat decent film. Now we've seen the "Groundhog Day" premise done before (most notably in the film Groundhog Day of course) and this film is no different. However what does make this film stand out is that it is a horror/slasher version of the premise and that's something unique. In a film like this you have to get very creative with how you handle each death and the filmmakers were able to do that and give you a lot of variation throughout the entire film. The gore isn't what you would expect coming from a horror film with a lot of brutal deaths and it's actually refreshing to see a horror film not rely so much on the gore. Performance wise you get your typical over-the-top performances and at points you honestly are glad some characters die. As mentioned the story is nothing new and it does get to be a little predictable although it does try to give you a twist ending, but it just doesn't work out too well. Overall the film reuses and often used premise, but it does offer a lot of newer things that have never been tried with this premise and it makes for a pretty decent watch. I give Happy Death Day a 6 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Happy Death Day, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
