My Review of American Made

So I recently watched American Made and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

American Made (film).jpg

Barry Seal (played by Tom Cruise), a TWA pilot, is recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America and soon finds himself in charge of one of the biggest covert CIA operations in the history of the United States. The operation spawns the birth of the Medellin cartel and almost brings down the Reagan White House.

This is one of the more surprising films of the year and one of the more fun films you'll see. At first glimpse the film seems as if it will just a run of the mill film that has a pretty generic plot, but instead we get a great character and an in-depth look at a story most people don't know about. It's pretty amazing as to what Seal was able to get away with and the man that it made him one of the greatest informants we've ever seen. Tom Cruise is probably the best he's ever been in a film in a really long time and he does a great job of of commanding the screen. The film is a lot similar to the film Blow and it not only does this film show how crazy drug trafficking was in the 70's and 80's it shows how far out Escobar's network stretched out to different countries. The editing is something that doesn't get talked enough about in this blog, but the seamless transitions the film makes when jumping from year to year is really smooth and crisp almost to where you can't tell that the story moves forward in the story. The film also does a nice job of blending several different genres together such as comedy, action and drama to where no never overshadows the other. There are times however where you don't think the filmmakers took the material seriously in a lot of aspects and besides Cruise no stands out as memorable and they were just put there because the story called for it. Overall American Made is a great film that does a great job of diving into a story not a lot of people knew about and it presents it in a entertaining manner, but the material could've been a little more seriously presented. I give American Made and 8.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of American Made, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
