My Top 10 Least Favorite Films of 2017 So Far

While the first half of 2017 has had a lot of amazing movies, there have been a lot of really bad ones. So with that being said I'm going to bring you my top 10 least favorite films of 2017 so far. So without further ado...

10. Unforgettable

The film itself is really unforgettable. It has a dopey plot that we've seen time and time again (mainly in the past couple of years) and nothing about screams it's a great film. Katherine Heigl  typically doesn't give great performances and her films end up being terrible, however she is actually really terrifying in the film, but the film still sucks so she still loses. The film didn't make much at the box office so hopefully these types of films stop, but it is highly unlikely.

9. Snatched

You know those moments when you see actors or actresses who had success a long time ago try to find it later in life, well Goldie Hawn is in that situation and the film plays out like you expect it to. It also doesn't help that Amy Schumer is in the film as she just brings her really annoying style of comedy to the film and it just doesn't work all to well. It has a lame story with really boring characters and lot of cliches that can take the enjoyment out of a move because it is so predictable.

8. Underworld: Blood Wars

There are some film franchises that people truly enjoy like The Resident Evil franchise (we'll get to that later in the list) and that's great because all film is subjective and you can love any film you want to. However, there are certain fans of franchises that have to admit that sometimes franchises are crumbling and this is one of them. It's a film that came out 5 years after the previous film which is a long time between sequels in a franchise like this where long gaps like this don't need to happen and it really shows in the storytelling. It's hard to connect to the characters you love when you haven't seen them in a while and when you don't spend enough time reconnecting with the characters then you just don't about them or the film.

7. The Bye Bye Man
The Bye Bye Man poster.jpg

This film had a perfect set-up for a great film and it fell flat on its face. It had a great backstory for the villain and it had a lot of potential to be a great horror film paying omage to several great films and using the best elements of those films and it ends up making it into a very dopey and predictable horror film. It takes the omage's uses them again the same way they were used before and acts as if we've never seen them before. Every move each character makes can be eyeballed from a mile away and you exactly when and where each scare will happen. After 2016 had a lot of great horror films 2017 got off to a bad start with this film and hopefully the rest of the 201 is better than this.

6. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

This has been a franchise that has went on for way to long and to say I'm excited for it to end is an understatement. It's a franchise that started off with a lot of great potential due to the popular success of the games but as we've come to find out, making the transition of game to film isn't as easy as it would seem. This film has a plot that is really predictable and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It does have halfway decent visuals with the scenery and some action scenes, but the action in the film is very unrealistic and the cgi is just awful and when you can tell it's cgi then there is something wrong with this being the last film in the franchise, maybe we could get a half decent film that tries to be different and standout from the rest.

5. Rings
Rings - Official Theatrical Poster.png

The original Japanese film was really great and while the American remakes was basically a shot by shot remake of the original, it still added in a few great new elements that made it standout and the sequel didn't improve on those other two films, this film didn't improve on those of The Ring Two which is not statement you want to hear. The film fees like a complete rehash of the original and it's one of the more predictable films in recent years and the scares just aren't that great and this is concept that gets old after just one film unless you add to the mythology of the video and this film doesn't do that all that often.

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

This is a great book series for kids and it really dives into several deep themes to help kids grow up and the films just haven't done them justice and this one really takes a massive left turn. The studio thought it would be a great idea to reboot the franchise in hopes of possibly bringing in some new energy to the franchise and that just doesn't happen. It's a film that tired to be better than the rest and it ended up actually being the worst and while the other films aren't so great, they at least had heart and emotion and this film is just lifeless that tries to way too modern for its own good.

3. Sleepless
Sleepless (2017 film).jpg

Every once in a while we get a remake of a foreign film that has high critical praise brought over to America to give the American audience of a version of that foreign film that hopefully lets them check out the original film. This film almost makes you not want to watch that film due to how bad this film is. It's a really lazy film that has a lot of action that is really unrealistic and the film doesn't even really acknowledge how insane it is unlike say The Fast and The Furious acknowledges it. It has a lot of over-acting and Jamie Foxx looks just so desperate to try to become a big movie star again and it just get too hard to watch.

2. Fifty Shades Darker
A masked woman in a white dress, being held as if dancing by a man in a tuxedo.

Thank goodness there is only one more film left in this franchise and the suffering will finally end next year. The book series was already a terrible fan fiction concept that didn't deserve the attention it got, but somehow people fell in love with it and now we get garbage films like this. It's a film that itself doesn't even understand what it is doing in the overall story arch. It's bad when the writer of the books doesn't think the director isn't doing her book justice, has the director and writer fired and then gets the studio to hire her husband to wirte the films o she can boss him around to make the story the way she envisioned it compared to what is going to make everyone else happy.

1. CHiPs

If people want to know why it is a terrible idea to bring an old tv show to the big screen then see exhibit A. In comedy film you are supposed to laugh and this film tires way too hard and it banks on the nostalgia of the tv series so if you've never seen the show you'll be a little lost. Dax Shpeard not only stars in the film, but he does his best Tommy Wiseau in directing, writing and starring in the film and maybe he shouldn't do that again if he doesn't want to get compared to people like Wiseau. This film has set the bar really high for terrible films this year so it'll be a tough one to knock off the top spot.

So ladies and gentlemen what are some of your least favorite films of the year so far and what do you think of my list? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
