So I recently watched The House and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.....
Scott (played by Will Ferrell) and Kate Johansen (played by Amy Poehler) must figure out a way to earn some money after their daughter's scholarship falls through. When all else fails, the desperate couple join forces with their neighbor Frank (played by Jason Mantzoukas) to start an underground casino in his home. As the cash rolls in and the good times fly, Scott and Kate soon learn that they may have bitten off more than they can chew.
This is an absolutely terrible film. When you go into seeing a film with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler you expect to be laughing quite a bit due to their comedic prowess, but those laughs are few and far between. Now there are a couple of great laughs, but there are no constant and continuous laughs that just make your gut burst and a few of the jokes are just a tad cringeworthy. It has a unique premise that could've worked as a different type of genre film and that the comedy aspects may have hurt the film overall. If there were any great laughs, then they came from Jason Mantzoukas and honestly his character stole the film and outperformed the likes of Ferrell and Poehler. Another that got to be really irritating is that for an hour the film had a nice string of events happening that you would almost expect to happen and then the last 20 minuted (yest this film is only an 1 hour and 20 minutes long) just feel like a bunch of random scenes thrown in at the last second to help the film have a long enough runtime for the studio to officially release it. Overall this film is basic and straightforward which isn't a bad thing, but it doesn't take any big chances when it comes to the story or the humor and it just makes you uncomfortable in certain scenes when you think you are supposed to laugh and you get no reaction. I give The House a 1 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The House, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
