My Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming

So I recently watched Spider-Man: Homecoming and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) returns home to live with his Aunt May (played by Marissa Tomei). Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.), Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine -- distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture (played by Michael Keaton) emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.

This is an absolutely fun film. For years, fans have clamored for Spider-Man to join the MCU and we finally got that last year with Captain America: Civil War and we can now expand on his story with this new solo film. The film itslef is terrific as a stand alone film, but it also does a lot of world building when it comes to the larger MCU.. Tom Holland takes over the reigns of Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he brings so much energy to the role and it's nice to see a fresher take on the character. If you were to rank each portrayal of Spider-Man n order based off the first film, Holland still sits behind both Maguire and Garfield, but hopefully his second film will allow him to grow more with the character. Michael Keaton is a welcomed addition to the MCU and compared to other villains in the MCU, he ranks up near the top simply because his motivations make sense and the resolution to defeat him isn't a flick of the wrist forcing Spider-Man to take risks and methodically battle him. The supporting cast within the film is magnificent as well with great performances from Marissa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Jon Favreau that really just make the film flow at a terrific pace. Being that this is a second reboot of the character of Spider-Man, director Jon Watts does a great job of making this feel fresh and gives us things we've never seen before. The biggest complaint coming out of the film was that we never really get to see too many character building moments for Peter and it tends to rely heavily on action more than anything else and in a film like this you need to balance it out to make parts more emotional and have a better impact on the overall story. Overall this is a great entry into the MCU and a breath of fresh air when it comes to Spider-Man and the future looks really bright for the character in future films. I give Spider-Man: Homecoming a 9 out of 10.
