So I recently watched King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
After the murder of his father (played by Eric Bana), young Arthur's power-hungry uncle Vortigern (played by Jude Law) seizes control of the crown. Robbed of his birthright, he grows up the hard way in the back alleys of the city, not knowing who he truly is. When fate leads him to pull the Excalibur sword from stone, Arthur (played by Charlie Hunnam) embraces his true destiny to become a legendary fighter and leader.
This film is pretty bad considering who all is involved. Can someone explain why Charlie Hunnam has picked some of the worst movies to ever choose when mapping out your career. Since Sons of Anarchy ended in 2014, his transition to the big screen has been an absolute dud. First Crimson Peak, then The Lost City of Z and now King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Look going into the film you already know the basic premise of King Arthur pulling the sword from the stone and there really aren't that many changes to that and the added in elements don't always hit the mark. Guy Ritchie is a really talented director and he has this certain style and you either love it or you hate it and this film you'll hate. There is so much slow-motion in the film that it really just takes away from the action and you can't get into a constant flow with everything. Now the slow-motion scenes did look pretty cool from a visual perspective as well as the other trinket thrown in here and there and it really made for a gorgeous film. Performance wise, there aren't many that stand out for the right reasons,b ut there is one that stands out and that is Djimon Hounsou and he just brings an energy that helps make the film a little bearable. For ones that stand out for the wrong reasons, Jude Law comes to mind and every single scene he is in he is over-acting to an extreme and it can take you out of the film. While Ritchie did a nice job of setting up a much larger universe, there are quite a few spots where the film feels rushed and it gets to be a little messy. Overall it's a film that sticks with the basic premise we all know and love, but the added in elements don't always hit home like they should which makes the film feel messy. I give King Arthur: Legend of the Sword a 4 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
