My Review of Prometheus

With Alien: Covenant set to hit theaters this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to review its predacessor Prometheus. Now some will ask why I'm not reviewing the rest of the Alien franchise, it's because you only need to watch Prometheus to understand what is going on in Alien Covenant as it is a prequel to Alien. So without further ado...

A female figure in silhouette stands before an enormous statue of a humanoid head. Text at the middle of the poster reveals the tagline "The Search For Our Beginning Could Lead To Our End". Text at the bottom of the poster reveals the title, production credits and rating.

The discovery of a clue to mankind's origins on Earth leads a team of explorers to the darkest parts of the universe. Two brilliant young scientists lead the expedition. Shaw (played by Noomi Rapace) hopes that they will meet a race of benevolent, godlike beings who will in some way verify her religious beliefs, while Holloway (played by Logan Marshall-Green) is out to debunk any spiritual notions. However, neither the scientists nor their shipmates are prepared for the unimaginable terrors that await them.

This is a fun yet very complicated film to watch. The fact that this is apart of Alien franchise is hard to believe because, Ridley Scott went of his way to hide a lot of things in both the marketing and the film itself that would've made the connection a lot simpler and probably would've hyped the film more had that not been hidden. Ridley Scott is a perfectionist when it comes to his visuals and this film is no different as the visuals are gorgeous and are some of the best in the Alien franchise to date which is saying a lot considering how great the visuals in this franchise are. Noomi Rapce is absolutely brilliant in the film as she serves as the Ellen Ripley figure in the film and while she isn't as good as Sigourney Weaver, Rapce does a nice job of just being that central female figure that we can all love. Another great performance comes from Michael Fassbender who just has the acting ability to come off as a character that we can enjoy and still see the serious side of him all with the same facial expression in the film. The main overall problem with the film is the pace which seems to be different throughout, the lack of true action scenes we get in the film and the story as a whole is just confusing and it throws in a lot of unnecessary stuff and again hiding the fact that this is apart of the Alien franchise was a big mistake and even in the film they only briefly mention it towards the end once you see the Xenomorph's. Overall this is a film that had some great potential and some great performances and visuals, but the execution as whole just doesn't mesh well with the rest of the film that stands out and it just doesn't have the feel of an Alien movie. I give Prometheus a 6.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Prometheus, are you excited for Alien: Covenant, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
