My Review of How to Be a Latin Lover

So I recently watched How to Be a Latin Lover and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Maximo (played by Eugenio Derbez) gets the surprise of his life when his wealthy, 80-year-old wife (played by Renée Taylor) dumps him for a younger car salesman. Forced out of his mansion, he must now move in with his estranged sister Sara (played by Salma Hayek) and her nerdy but adorable son Hugo (played by Raphael Alejandro ). Anxious to return to the lap of luxury, Maximo hatches a scheme to seduce a widowed billionaire and live the high life once again.

While it is an overall horrible film, it does have a lot of traits that make it a little watchable. If you go into this film looking for a great plot, then you'll leave disappointed because there reall isn't one and honestly all of the hallmark moments in the film are things we've seen so many times over the past few years. Eugenio Derbez is okay in the lead role, but he has a lot of cringeworthy moments that either aren't funny or they come off as really creepy. There are points in the film where it does get to be a little too mushy and emotional which hurts the film in trying to figure out what type of it wants to be. In all honesty, this fells like a film that Happy Madison Productions would come up with because there is a lot of lazy writing in the film when it comes to the characters development and the story. As for the overall humor in the film, there are a lot of great jokes and some of them can be pretty crude, but they fit to serve a purpose in the film. Overall this is a very basic and simple film to make that doesn't challenge itself, but there are some really gut-busting moments that can keep you entertained. I give How to Be a Latin Lover a 2 out of 10.
